The limited-edition SPAM x Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce tin retails for $4 exclusively at Walmart
No production numbers were announced, but the product is listed as available while supplies last
Potential resale value of $15 to $30 depending on how much attention it picks up online
SPAM has done collabs before, but teaming up with Bachan’s is a pretty clever one. Bachan’s has built a devoted following for its Japanese barbecue sauce, and SPAM has been a fixture in Japanese-American cooking for decades. For fans of either brand, this is a natural pairing, and at $4 a tin, the barrier to stocking up is about as low as it gets.
SPAM is partnering with Bachan for a limited-edition Japanese barbecue sauce-flavored 12-oz. tin. It launches March 7 exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide. According to the official press release, the pairing has been popular in home kitchens and on social media for years, with fans using the two products together in musubi, fried rice, and other dishes. The brands eventually made it official.
There are no announced production numbers, so it’s unclear how limited “limited” actually is here. That said, Walmart exclusives with genuine brand crossover appeal tend to move faster than you’d expect, especially once food content creators start posting recipes.
This one falls into the “low investment, low risk, modest upside” category. At $4 retail, picking up a few cans costs almost nothing. If demand from Bachan’s fans and SPAM collectors pushes secondary market interest, resale could land in the $15 to $30 range based on what similar limited food collabs have done on eBay.
We’ve tracked plenty of novelty food items reselling above their retail prices. Earlier this year, limited edition french toast Butterfinger bars went viral and resellers were able to score up to $11 per bar, netting considerable profits on 36-count boxes.
That’s not a life-changing flip, but a potentially solid return on a $4 item if you’re already at Walmart. Don’t go out of your way to stock 20 cans on speculation, but grabbing a handful while you’re there is a reasonable call.
Walmart’s standard return policy covers unopened items within 90 days with a receipt, which makes this about as low-risk as a collectible food item can be. If resale interest doesn’t materialize, you can return them or, at worst, eat a $4 can of SPAM. Not exactly a catastrophic loss.
