Funko is releasing a gold battle-damaged Optimus Prime exclusively through Evend, limited to 9,500 units
No retail price has been confirmed yet, and the exact April 2026 drop date has not been announced
At 9,500 units, this is far larger than most Funkos that generated meaningful profits
Funko and Evend are teaming up on a gold battle-damaged Optimus Prime figure dropping sometime this month, and sure, it looks cool. The gold colorway with green patina battle damage is a genuinely interesting design. But before you get visions of a big flip, take a look at what we actually know — and more importantly, what we don’t — because the picture here is a lot murkier than the marketing makes it seem.
The figure is an Evend-exclusive Funko Pop, labeled as a limited “supreme” edition. Evend is a collectibles vending and retail platform with a pretty sizable Funko catalog, so this isn’t a tiny boutique drop.
Here’s where things get tricky. No retail price has been confirmed. No exact drop time or method has been announced. We don’t know if there will be chase variants. The only concrete detail publicly available is the edition size: 9,500 units, dropping sometime in April 2026.
That’s a lot of unknowns for a potential flip — and the one thing we do know is working against resellers.
9,500 units is large. To put it in perspective, Transformers-themed Funko pieces limited to around 2,500 units have historically sold for roughly $20-25 above retail on the secondary market. That’s not nothing, but it’s also not the kind of margin that makes a dedicated trip worthwhile.
At nearly four times that run size, the buyer pool has to be significantly larger to move units above retail — and the Funko market right now is not in a strong position to deliver that. The brand has faced serious headwinds over the past few years, with oversaturation killing off a lot of the speculative appetite that used to make limited Pops reliable flips.
Optimus Prime is one of the best-known characters in the Transformers line, which helps. Transformers is a franchise with deep nostalgia and a genuinely passionate collector base. But passion for the IP doesn’t automatically translate to demand for this specific figure, especially at an unknown price point.
Without a confirmed price, running clean profit math is impossible — and that alone is a reason for caution. If retail lands in the $25-40 range typical for exclusive Pops and secondary market comps for similar Transformers Funkos hold, margins after eBay’s 13% fees will likely be thin at best.
For Transformers collectors who want this for their shelf, the design is genuinely cool and Optimus Prime exclusives tend to hold value over time. But for resellers, the combination of an oversized run, an unproven platform, and a Funko market that has been rough for years makes this an easy pass for now. Check back when the retail price drops — if it comes in surprisingly low and demand at launch looks strong, the calculus could change.
We’ll update this article when pricing and drop details are confirmed.
