Charli XCX has been selling signed versions of “Brat” ahead of its release
Vinyl is $40, CDs are $15
Resellers have flipped them for 3 to 5 times retail
Another day, another hot vinyl for resellers to profit on. Charli XCX is all set to release her newest album, “Brat”, and has started selling signed vinyl and CD versions. If you’ve been reselling for minute, you should know how much money can be made by flipping stuff like this. And while we’ve seen all kinds of sales before, signed versions of “Brat” are doing seriously impressive numbers. Let’s take a look.
“Brat” is scheduled to be released on June 7. It will be Charli XCX’s sixth album, and has been described by critics as a return to her career’s roots. Aggressive, rough, and perfect for warehouse raves.
Two singles have been released so far, “Von Dutch” and “365”. As you can guess, her fans are suitably pumped for the drop, and all they have to do now is wait. Sometimes that’s the hardest part.
And like most new releases, there are variants. We’re not talking Taylor Swift levels of double-dipping, but as of right now there are 12 different physical versions of “Brat” for sale on Charli XCX’s website, and two different versions of “Von Dutch” as a single.
Most of these are vinyl variants. The cover art for “Brat” is extremely simple, and it lends itself well to different colors. If you’re a real fan, you just have to buy all the vinyl in all the colors.
And if you’re a real real fan, you can take it a step further. For a limited time, Charli XCX was selling signed versions of “Brat”, either as vinyl or on CD. These cost around $40 for vinyl and $15 for a CD. You could also request a personalized message or name, although most resellers would opt for a simple signature.
As you can probably guess all of these sold out pretty fast. They went live between 3 and 6 A.M. for Americans, and even then it was a quick sale.
Now, signed “Brat” vinyl is selling for about $150. We say “about” because the numbers are pretty spread out; some have gone for $200, others for under $100. Signed “Brat” CDs are also reselling for between $30 and $50.
It’s worth noting these aren’t the first signed versions of “Brat” sold, and they likely won’t be the last. Charli XCX has sold these through her own website, Banquet Records, and Assai. Keep an eye for more drops in the future. These kinds of profits are pretty impressive, especially when you consider how many variants are out there.
