Signed Dungeon Crawler Carl Comics Will be Given Away at NYCC

CGC, the official grading partner for NYCC, is handing out Dungeon Crawler Carl #0 comic books with a unique cover variant to anyone who submits an eligible collectible for grading at its booth (#2805) during the show.

CGC grades a lot more than comics, everything from trading cards to video games to posters, but bringing in a simple comic is probably your cheapest and fastest way to qualify. Base grading on comics from 1975 or later starts at $30, so “free” really means “the price of a grading fee.” It’s limited to one variant per person, while supplies last.

Both Matt Dinniman, who wrote the original novels, and Doug Mahnke, the artist behind the new cover, are scheduled to sign copies at the booth throughout the weekend. Getting your comic signed by both while you’re there turns a cool giveaway into something seriously valuable for collectors.

Rather than waiting in a walk-up line, CGC lets you prep your submission ahead of time and just drop it off at the show. Create a free account on CGC’s site, fill out the online submission form for whatever you’re grading, and choose the drop-off option instead of a walk-up slot.

Print the packing slip, bring it with your item, and hand everything to a rep at the Express Drop-off table. If this variant disappears as fast as we expect, showing up already prepped could be the difference between walking away with a comic and walking away empty-handed.

Last year’s NYCC attendees were also able to snag a signed Dungeon Crawler Carl #0, and those copies have gone on to sell for up to $2,000.

That’s about as close to an apples-to-apples comp as you’ll find for a comic book like this, and the franchise has only gotten bigger since, so there’s a solid case this year’s variant performs just as well, if not better.

Keep in mind that supplies for the comics are limited and there’s no guarantees you’ll secure the comic even if you pay for a submission. CGC is offering alternate cover variants of two other comics as consolation prizes, but your focus should be on the Dungeon Crawler Carl comic above anything else.

If you’re already heading to NYCC, this is close to a no-risk way to leave with a rare piece of one of the biggest franchises in the room right now. Get there early, have your submission ready, and try to catch Dinniman and Mahnke while they’re signing.
