The last doll from Monster High’s Off-White collaboration is Symphanee Midnight
These dolls were $150 and exclusive through the Mattel Creations website
Presale listings for them have sold for $200+, but it’s unclear if the market will hold up
Yesterday, Mattel rolled out a new Monster High doll for collectors. The Symphanee Midnight doll is the final doll in a four part collaboration with Off-White, and Monster High fans have been consistently buying up everything available. Resellers have also been aware of the collection, and have flipped previous dolls for two or more times what they retailed for. Now that the Symphanee Midnight dolls are sold out, it seems like they are reselling as well.
We first covered the collaboration between Monster High and Off-White a few months ago. Last year, Mattel announced that four dolls would be produced, with “Electra Melody” as the first.
And now we have the last, “Symphanee Midnight“. With the success of the previous dolls, Mattel is pretty well set up for one final release.
Like all the dolls from the collection, Symphanee Midnight is a blend of ghoulish sensibility and contemporary fashion. Off-White’s designers consulted with Mattel for her clothes: a windbreaker over a ball gown.
The doll has a subtle translucence, with a visible skeleton just barely visible underneath the skin in some parts. Sallow skin is contrasted with bright greens to create an ethereal look.
Symphanee Midnight Monster High dolls were sold on March 13 for $150, exclusively through the Mattel Creations website. A Fang Club membership was not required to purchase these dolls, but orders were limited to two per customer.
Going into this drop, resellers were pretty confident that Symphanee Midnight dolls would be a good flip. All of the previous Monster High Off-White dolls were quite profitable.
Ahead of its release, eBay was full of presales for the Symphanee Midnight doll. Most resellers were asking somewhere between $200 and $300, and collectors were willing to pay.
However, Mattel seemed to be aware of how popular this collection was. While previous dolls were pretty limited releases that sold out in a few minutes, the Symphanee Midnight doll remained in stock for over three hours.
Both collectors and resellers were buying these dolls up during that time. We can’t say anything for certain, but it does seem like production was increased for this doll.
We’ll have to see how that affects the market. Resellers thrive at the intersection of scarcity and demand, and when one of the formula is tampered with it can throw everything off. Still, early sales are a good sign that people want these.
