You Should be Reselling Dune 2 IMAX Film Strips

Well, it’s Dune season. Part Two hit theaters across the world this month and it’s definitely living up to the hype. Movies of this scale are popular at IMAX theaters, and Regal is preparing a special collectible for fans. Three different strips of 70mm collectable IMAX film have been produced for Dune 2 showings. Two of them have already been given away, and the third and final strips will be distributed next week. If a participating theater is in your area consider going, because these strips are reselling easily.

Dune 2 IMAX 70mm Film Strip

So you remember last year, when seeing Oppenheimer in IMAX was a big deal? Theaters also produced collectable film strips for that. We covered it in an article, but the short version of a short story is that these strips resell.

And why not cash in on a good idea? People are very understandably hyped for Dune 2, and these collectable film strips are a great way to get in on that.

So here’s what’s happening: if you purchase a ticket to see Dune 2 at a 70mm IMAX showing on one of three dates, you are eligible to receive one of three collectable strips (subject to availability). These strips are not actual pieces of the film shown, but separate pieces of 70mm film produced as collectibles.

There are a limited number of 70mm showings of Dune 2. In fact, there’s only 10 theaters in all of North America. Here’s the list:

• Harkins Arizona Mills 25 & IMAX – Tempe, AZ
• AMC Metreon 16 & IMAX – San Francisco, CA
• Regal Edwards Irvine Spectrum & IMAX – Irvine, CA
• TCL Chinese Theatres IMAX – Hollywood, CA
• Universal Cinema AMC at CityWalk Hollywood & IMAX – Universal City, CA
• IMAX, Indiana State Museum – Indianapolis, IN
• AMC Lincoln Square 13 & IMAX – New York, NY
• Regal UA King of Prussia & IMAX – King of Prussia, PA

UK readers can see it at BFI IMAX, British Film Institute in London, and Aussies can catch a showing at the Melbourne Museum IMAX.

These are the only locations distributing these strips, and they will only be available on three dates: March 3, March 9, and March 17. Additionally, the strips are only handed out during the last showing of the night, usually after 10 P.M.

That’s it. That’s the only way to get one. As you can see, these are pretty limited collectibles. If you live close to one of these theaters, we recommend trying to get tickets for a Sunday showing.

Dune 2 IMAX Film Strips Resell

Because these are so limited, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see them reselling. We’ve been keeping a close eye on them after seeing how profitable the Oppenheimer strips ended up.

Right now, a Dune 2 IMAX film strip is reselling for about $100. The market is mainly composed of Week 1 strips right now, but a few Week 2 strips have come up for about the same price.

Oppenheimer strips were reselling for $200 at their peak, so the Dune 2 strips are definitely trading a little lower. That said, it’s still early. It’s possible that there are some people trying to snag all three strips to sell as a complete collection, or awareness of these strips hasn’t hit its peak yet.

And even then, $100 means that watching this movie comes out as a net profit. You can always play on your phone if you get bored (please don’t).
