Key Points

  • Funko dropped their 2023 Halloween Box of Fun last week

  • $105, four teams, three Funkos and three Soda Pops per Box

  • Only the Jack Carver Boxes have sold out, with a handful of aftermarket sales

Last week, Funko dropped their Halloween Box of Fun for 2023. This was a Heavy Metal themed box with four different variants. While Funko tends to be pretty hit or miss for resellers, Boxes of Fun are one of the more consistent flips. As of this writing, several variants are still in stock through Funko’s site. That said, one of them has sold and is currently reselling. We’re going to take a look at this years Halloween Box of Fun and explore whether it’s worth buying.

Funko Heavy Metal Halloween Box of Fun

Okay first, let’s go over just what a Box of Fun is. These are a sort of mystery box product that Funko sells on different occasions. During the summer, we covered the Funko Fundays Box of Fun that ended up reselling for hundreds.

Boxes of Fun are based around a theme, and include several different variants, or teams, to choose from. In addition to your team mascot Funko, you also get additional figures and Soda Pop! figures from a random pool. Typically these figures are exclusive to the Box of Fun.

On October 12, Funko dropped the Heavy Metal Halloween Box of Fun. As you might guess, the teams are all metal-themed. They include Rusty Steel, Jack Carver, Sid Fishious, and Phil D. Graves.

The bonus Funkos are all exclusive to the Heavy Metal Halloween Box of Fun. Funko has not published an official list of possible figures, but has said their rarities range from 6,000 figures to just 500.

The Heavy Metal Halloween Box of Fun costs $105 through Funko’s website. As of this writing, only the Jack Carver Boxes have sold out.

Considering these have been out for more than a week now, that’s… not a great sign. Well, for resellers at least. If you’re a Funko collector, congrats! You can stock up on your plastic crap at retail prices this time. If you were looking to make a profit on this release though, the situation is less than ideal.

Funko Jack Carver Box of Fun

It’s not all doom and gloom though. If you got lucky or just had good taste and bought the Jack Carver Box of Fun before they sold out, these ones are actually selling for a profit.

Funko Jack Carver Box for Sale

Right now, Jack Carver Halloween Boxes of Fun are reselling for around $130. Again, not that great as profits go, but it beats zero.

Funko Heavy Metal Box of Fun Figures

One reason behind these Boxes bricking is the potential mystery figures they had. While Funko never publishes these figures ahead of time, early leaks showing opened boxes were disappointing. Many Funko collectors thought the Boxes were unimaginative and the theme was boring.

Of course, we won’t know the complete list of mystery figures until collectors actually start receiving and opening their Boxes in large enough numbers to compile a list.

It’s entirely possible that there are some pretty cool figures out there that collectors will be willing to pay for. When the Funko Fridays Boxes of Fun dropped, people were going wild over particular figures, with Freddy Funko as Captain America Metallic figures reselling for upwards of $1,000

Will we see the same kind of hype for the figures in these Boxes? It’s hard to say. First impressions mean a lot, and it seems like Funko collectors have largely turned their backs on the Heavy Metal Halloween Box of Fun.

If you’re a reseller that missed out on the Jack Carver Boxes, it seems like the only path to profit is by reselling the individual figures (essentially gambling).

We recommend taking a pass on these. At $105 per box for a total of three figures and three Soda Pops, the odds aren’t exceptional. There are plenty of other flips to save your money for, and even Funko collectors aren’t buying the boxes at retail.
