Key Points

  • Oakland A’s merch is currently being delisted following the move

  • This includes the recently-viral A’s “Ass Hats”

  • Reselllers are asking up to $5,000 for one

In the wake of the Athletics’ move out of Oakland, a significant portion of their merchandise is being pulled from sale. One such product getting some attention online is the Oakland Team Shadow hat, better known and described as the “Ass Hat”. It’s a fitting tribute to the league’s biggest farm team, and one that collectors are resellers are starting to seriously value.

If you’re a baseball fan or Oakland resident, you’ve probably heard that the A’s are officially relocating. Despite calling Oakland home for over fifty years, abysmal attendance and friction between owners and fans has finally ended their stretch.

2024 was the last season for the Oakland A’s, and the team is set to officially call Las Vegas home by 2028. Until then, they will be playing in Sacramento with no city affiliation. From now on, they’re just the A’s.

The change in ownership means that most of the A’s current merch is being discontinued. Fans have been desperately stocking up what remains, and one hat in particular has caught some serious viral popularity.

Okay, seriously, is there any way to parse this design other than “ASS”? Officially listed as a “Team Shadow”, the A’s Ass Hats are part of a larger collection within the MLB. While that might have worked out for other teams, it’s a little different for the A’s.

At $37, these surged in popularity in September. What better way to remember one of the suckiest teams of recent history than a self-unaware snapback that proudly labels your hometown heroes as ASS?

Unfortunately for A’s fans, these hats have been discontinued, likely permanently. They appeared to have sold out earlier this week, and now all listings for the A’s Ass Hats have been removed and delisted online. Just one more kick in the pants for the league’s most downtrodden fans.

But just because a product disappears from retail sale doesn’t mean it’s gone for good. Hardworking resellers form a vital part of the supply chain in times like this, and once again they’ve stepped in to do good.

It’s still early, but we’ve seen at least once seller carpe the diem and list their Oakland A’s Ass hat on eBay. The asking price? Originally $5,000, but it seems they’ve come down to $500 as of this week.

Bold, sure, but there’s nothing wrong with ambition. And while the A’s might suck (in fact, we’re fairly sure they do), their fans have shown some serious dedication. During this year’s season opener, thousands of fans protested their ownership by camping out in the parking lot outside the Coliseum.

For a fanbase that has no issue expressing their love for a flailing team, these Oakland A’s Ass Hats are the perfect piece of merch. Now that they’re off the market for good, who knows what they’ll end up reselling for.

Well, probably not $500. As they get more media attention we expect to see sales rolling in, but closer to the $100-$200 mark. If you managed to snag one, now might be the time to start testing the waters on eBay.
