Earlier this week, the LA Dodgers handed out commemorative bobbleheads featuring their star player Shohei and his dog, Decoy. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen merchandise like this, and fans are always willing to pull up for Shotime. Now we’re seeing the bobbleheads resell online. While the standard designs are flipping for a few hundred, rarer gold variants have traded hands for more than $1,000.
Shohei and Decoy Bobblehead Giveaway
If you’ve a regular blog reader, today’s topic probably sounds familiar. This isn’t the first time we’ve covered collectable Shohei Ohtani bobbleheads, and it probably won’t be the last.
During his MLB career with the Angels and Dodgers, both teams have produced various commemorative bobbleheads that fans have adored. We covered them last in May, and now the Dodgers have produced an entirely new run.
On Wednesday night, Shohei and his dog Decoy delivered the first pitch at Dodger Stadium. Apparently this is the first time a dog has thrown the first pitch at an MLB game.
Shohei would go on to homer in his first at-bat, then stole two bases later in the game. The Dodgers would win over the Orioles 6-4, and put Shohei on pace to become the first player to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season.
Is there anything this dude can’t do? Before the game, the Dodgers gave out special bobbleheads featuring both Shohei and Decoy. The first 40,000 fans through the stadium gates would receive one free of charge.
And it gets even better. While most fans would receive a standard version of these collectables, around 2,000 Gold Shohei and Decoy Bobbleheads were distributed randomly.
As you can probably guess, these rarer bobbleheads were extremely sought after. People reported having strangers making cash offers for their bobbleheads during the game, although the smart option would be to take them to eBay instead.
Shohei Ohtani Decoy Bobbleheads Resell
Why? Because merchandise like this will always sell for more online. When you have more eyes on your product and collectors competing over it, you’ll end up with more profit nine times out of ten.
Right now, Shohei Ohtani Decoy Bobbleheads are reselling for around $200. Since Wednesday night, we’ve recorded around 400 total sales, including a sizable portion of presale listings ahead of the game.
But it doesn’t stop there. In fact, things get much better. Gold Shohei Ohtani Decoy Bobbleheads are reselling for more than $1,000 after the game. The lucky fans that received one stand to make several hundred dollars in profit, depending on what they paid for their seats.
If you’re fast enough, you can snag Dodgers tickets for as little as $50 (if you don’t mind nosebleeds). This was a great opportunity for anyone in the LA area, especially baseball fans.
Two more bobblehead nights are planned at Dodger Stadium in the next few weeks. Fans can take home an Evan Phillips bobblehead on September 7, or Max Muncy on September 11. While these are both great players, don’t expect to see the same hype as Shohei’s bobbleheads.
