We’re all eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Barbie movie in theaters on July 21. In addition to being the most important cinematic work we’ve seen in decades, it’s also brought with it a raft of tie-in merchandise. Many of these products have already started reselling, and there are many more on the way. One of these is the Barbie Flip Phone hand mirror produced by Nyx. Now, this simple bit of pink plastic is reselling for four times what it retails for.

NYX is an American makeup company, and they’ve produced a new line of products to coincide with the release of Barbie. In addition to the various eyeshadows, lipsticks, blushes and mascara, there’s also a few fun gimmicky. One of these is a pink flip mirror, fashioned to look like a flip phone from the 2000s.

Pretty simple as far as merchandise goes, but it’s a clever idea, and it’s proving quite popular. We’ve said it a lot here, but once TikTok latches onto a product, it can drive it to resell. Even the cheapest bits of mass-produced plastic can drive people into a frenzy, and flip for well over their retail price.
In the case of the Barbie NYX Flip Phone mirror, that kind of frenzy would lead to it selling out from the NYX website and Ulta stores as fast as it stocked. You know what happens next. Where there’s people scrambling for a product that’s out of stock, resellers will step in.

At just under $20 a phone retail, this wasn’t a particularly risky item to buy, as long as you could find it in stock. After TikTok and Twitter did a number on this phone and got every irony-poisoned girl and benzo addict on the internet fiending for it, prices starting going way, way up.
Right now, the Barbie NYX Flip Phone hand mirror is reselling for around $80. Not at all bad considering they could be bought online with no quantity limits.
Of course, buying them is not easy as it once was. The mirrors are sold out pretty much everywhere, to the point that Ulta workers are posting angry threads on Reddit complaining about the trend. We still have a few more weeks until the film hits theaters, so keep your eyes peeled for a restock wherever you can find one.
