Greta Van Fleet’s upcoming album received a variety of vinyl releases
One of these was a UK-exclusive signed Starcatcher vinyl
100 records were sold for around $45 each and resell for $250
Fans of the band Greta Van Fleet had an opportunity last week to pick up a special vinyl record. A limited number of signed Starcatcher vinyl records were sold exclusively through a UK record distributor, which is odd on its own. Given the limited supply and intense demand, there have already been a number of sales for well over what the records retailed for.
Midwest band Greta Van Fleet has a new album on the way. Starcatcher is expected to release on July 21, and fans are understandably excited. Part of the release also means an opportunity to pick up the album on vinyl.
Unlike what you might be used to, Starcatcher has received at least nine different vinyl pressings before its release. The differences are purely visual, with no alternate or bonus songs between the pressings. Most Starcatcher vinyl variants cost somewhere around $30.
Additionally, there was a very limited sale of signed records. Sold exclusively through the distributer Assai Records, the signed Starcatcher vinyl was only available to buy in the UK. A bit of an interesting choice considering the band was formed in the American Midwest, and didn’t play outside the country until 2017.
Strangeness aside, these records sold very quickly. Considering that just 100 signed Starcatcher records were available, that shouldn’t be a terrible shock. Assai Records even includes in their item description “no supply to resellers” and threatens to charge a restocking fee to canceled orders to resellers. We’ll see how that works out for them.
These records are also notable because it seems like Greta Van Fleet members are somewhat hesitant to put their autographs out there. At least according to fans who have seen their shows before, one of the members’ mom is a bit choosy about what they can sign. For some reason.
Assai Records is a UK based company, but they do sell records to American buyers. Obviously, we have no way of knowing who bought what from where, but we do know these records sold out extremely fast, and more than a few resellers secured an order.
Immediately after the sale on June 30, a number of records went up for sale on eBay. Currently, a Greta Van Fleet signed Starcatcher vinyl is reselling for around $250. So much for keeping records out of the hands of resellers.
Unsigned records from the lot resell for around $100
The tight supply for these signed records means sales will be uncommon. This release flew under the radar for many resellers, and most records made their way to fans of the band. That means the number of people willing to sell their copies will only dwindle, while those willing to pay will continue to grow. It’s possible the price for one of these records could get pretty silly in the future.
