Xbox 25th Anniversary Edition is Their Most Collectible Console Yet

Revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase, the Series X25 is a 25th anniversary limited edition of the Xbox Series X. Under the hood it’s performance-identical to the standard Series X, with 1TB of storage and all the same specs. What makes this one worth talking about is the design.

The translucent OG Green shell is a direct callback to the original Xbox, complete with a green illuminated “X” on boot, the Xbox 25th Anniversary logo on the front, and a few other hidden details Microsoft is teasing for fans to discover.

The matching Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition carries the same translucent green aesthetic, with classic colored ABXY buttons, black and white bumpers nodding to the original Duke controller, and a transparent battery door showing off the classic Xbox logo inside.

Microsoft confirmed the console and controller will be sold as a bundle in select markets in November, with the controller also available separately. Pricing and preorder details will be announced closer to launch.

The obvious point of comparison here is the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary collection from 2024. Those PS5 Pro bundles were limited to 12,300 numbered units, sold for $1,000 each, and immediately became some of the most valuable flips of the year.

They were reselling for $2,000 to $3,000 within days of release, and continue to command around $3,000 or more today.

The X25 has similar ingredients: a limited edition label from the manufacturer, a design with genuine nostalgia appeal, and a November release window that puts it squarely in the holiday season. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed a production cap yet, but the “limited edition” language is notable.

There are a few reasons to temper expectations relative to the PS5 anniversary comparison, though. PlayStation has a meaningfully larger player base than Xbox, roughly 2.5 times larger by most estimates, which translates to a deeper pool of nostalgic buyers and more competition for limited units at retail. The PS5 anniversary also landed alongside the PS5 Pro, meaning buyers were getting a genuine hardware upgrade alongside the collector’s design. The X25 is the same Series X performance in a new shell, which limits the appeal to pure collectors and aesthetics enthusiasts rather than players looking for an upgrade.

That said, Xbox still has a substantial and loyal fanbase, the design is legitimately cool, and Microsoft has explicitly called this limited edition. If the production run turns out to be genuinely scarce, expect serious resell demand.

At a projected bundle price of $700 or more (accounting for the current hardware squeeze and tariff pressures), a 2X flip would represent hundreds of dollars in profit after eBay’s fees. That’s a solid return. Just don’t expect PS5 anniversary territory unless Microsoft surprises with a very tight production limit.

Pricing and preorder details haven’t been announced yet. The most important variable to watch for is any confirmation of a strict production limit. A numbered, capped production run like Sony’s 12,300 unit PS5 anniversary is what separates a solid flip from a historic one. If Microsoft announces open production with no cap, temper your expectations accordingly.

Retailer distribution will matter too. A single-retailer preorder window like PlayStation Direct creates the competitive buying environment that pushes resell prices up. Wide multi-retailer availability tends to suppress premiums.
