Kith and Benchmade have teamed up for the first time
50 Kith Bugout knives were sold for $395
Resellers have flipped them for up to $1,000
On Monday morning, Benchmade released their highly awaited first collaboration with Kith. These unique variations on the classic Bugout knife were an instant hit, with collectors and hypebeasts lining up to snag one. Even with an MSRP of nearly $400, the extremely limited production pretty much guaranteed these would sell out instantly and end up on eBay. Let’s get into it.
You know, we’ve been running this blog for quite a while now, and we’ve covered pretty much any kind of collectable you can think of. Collectable condiments? Sure, take your pick. Collectable Bratz dolls? We write about them every other week. Collectable Cheetos? Just another day in the life.
So collectable knives really aren’t that surprising. Leatherman has developed their own line of limited edition premium knives for collectors, and today we’re looking at a new entry from Benchmade.
Earlier this week, the Oregon City-based knifemaker dropped their first collaboration with design firm Kith. The Benchmade X Kith Bugout is a hypebeast-approved variation on one of Benchmade’s bestselling folding knives.
Built from the same high quality steel and anodized aluminum as standard Bugouts, the Benchmade X Kith knives feature distinct branding and decoration. The handles are finished with distinct Kith monogramming, while the blades are stamped with both Kith and Benchmade’s logos.
And the whole thing ships in unique premium packaging. Just 50 of these knives were made, so we’re guessing most will spend their lives inside the box, rather than out.
The Benchmade Kith Bugout knife sold for $395 on March 3. They were available both online and through select Kith locations, and the available stock disappeared very fast.
So, where do we go from here? eBay, obviously. When you’ve got something this rare, this collectable, and this desirable, the move is always to flip it to some sucker for double what you paid for it.
And it the case of these knives, double is selling it a little short. Right now, Benchmade Kith Bugout knives are reselling for up to $1,000. Because so few of these were made we only have a handful of sales to go off, but we’re guessing these resellers are very happy with their purchase.
The verdict? You should have bought this. With only 50 made it definitely wasn’t easy to get one, but you were risking nothing. An online sale meant that the only effort required was clicking a few buttons. If you made it, enjoy the extra $600.
Oh, and by the way, these had a quantity limit of two per customer. So make that $1,200. If you want to get informed about flips like these before they pass you by, you need to join RC Elite.
