Alex Hirsch Signed Books May Resell for 50 Times Retail

Resellers just hit a major flip before going into the weekend. On Friday afternoon, “The Book of Bill” went up for sale, along with a limited number of copies signed by the author Alex Hirsch. Some of Hirsch’s previous signed works have resold for upwards of $2,000, so this new drop is a big deal. It’s still early and we’re waiting to see how the market pans out, but this may end up being one of the single largest profit margins on a flip in 2023.

The Book of Bill Signed Copies

First the book. You like reading, right? Or maybe TV, at least. If you’ve heard of the show “Gravity Falls“, you may also be familiar with its creator Alex Hirsch.

“Gravity Falls” ran for two seasons over four years, and managed to pick up a cult following in that time. Revolving around paranormal happenings in the Oregon woods and loosely based on the I5 “Oregon Vortex” tourist trap, it’s one of the more notable animated to shows to come out of the last decade.

And like most television shows made for kids, it’s equally popular with millennials. In the years since the show ended, Alex Hirsch has produced a few supplemental books related to the series. Today we’re looking at the latest, “The Book of Bill“.

Written from the perspective of the antagonist character Bill Cypher, “The Book of Bill” offers an alternative perspective to the series. In it, Bill “sheds light on his bizarre origins, his sinister effects on human history, and the Pines family’s most embarrassing secrets”. Positively titillating.

One notable part of the description is that the book is intended for adults. Well, the verbatim disclaimer reads “Beware: This book travels to dimensions meant for older readers”, but we can read between the lines.

Hirsch’s previous books have generally been G-rated, so this is considerable selling point, especially considering “Gravity Falls” continued popularity with adults.

Even more exciting is that a limited number of books signed by Alex Hirsch were also available. Exclusively sold through Barnes and Noble, signed copies of “The Book of Bill” were a hot commodity and sold out fast.

At $27 retail, getting a signed edition of “The Book of Bill” was not difficult, at least wallet-wise. This was definitely a drop you needed to be on your toes for, but as long as you were on the site fast enough, there was no reason not to stock up.

But why do resellers give a hoot about this? Well, remember those books by Alex Hirsch we mentioned a few paragraphs above? That’s why.

In 2013, Alex Hirsch and Rob Renzetti wrote the book “Gravity Falls: Journal 3“. Signed copies were also sold at the time. Over the next few years, signed editions would become sort of a holy grail to Gravity Falls fans. Enough so that copies have sold for over $2,000.

Hopefully that gives an idea of why resellers are so stoked about the new books. Signed books are inherently valuable, highly desirable; and as long as an Autopen isn’t involved, very limited. All of these factors make them perfect for resellers.

When we have a proven track record for the author too that just makes things even better. Now, it’s still early, and sales for “The Book of Bill” have yet to kick off. We do have one confirmed sale at $400 already though, which is a pretty good sign.

A quick eBay perusal shows only three other active listings for the new book. We’re guessing most resellers missed out on this considering how niche it is.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for restocks. It’s unlikely, but if new signed copies do become available for sale don’t hesitate to buy. We’ve seen a sale of more than ten times its retail value already, and if you don’t mind waiting a few years your $27 could turn into $2,700.
