If you were hoping for a bong-shaped popcorn bucket to accompany your Scary Movie 6 experience, we have some bad news on that front, but the consolation prize is actually pretty solid. The official bucket is a replica of the brick cell phone made famous in both Scream and the original 2000 Scary Movie. It glows in the dark, has “WAZZUP!” printed on the side, and includes a working button that triggers a speaker playing the classic “Wazzup” exchange from the first film.

Discussing Film got the first exclusive look at the bucket on June 3, two days ahead of the film’s theatrical release. The Scary Movie 6 phone popcorn bucket is a hollow replica of the old-school brick phone that served as one of the most iconic props in the Scream franchise, which Scary Movie famously parodied.

It holds popcorn, it lights up, and it talks to you when you press the button. As far as novelty theater merchandise goes, the concept delivers.

The “$67.69 plus shipping and handling” price shown in the promotional teaser is (probably) not the actual retail price. While there are collectible popcorns that cost $70, this one is not quite on the same level.

Pricing will matter a lot once confirmed. If theaters are charging $35, you’re looking at a comfortable margin. If concession pricing comes in higher than expected, the math gets tighter.

Is the Scary Movie 6 Bong Popcorn Bucket Real?

We covered the Scary Movie 6 bong-shaped popcorn buckets back in May when Paramount teased them on social media. At the time, we flagged that glass bong distribution through theater concession stands was logistically far-fetched and that the whole thing had the feel of a marketing stunt.

Turns out that read was correct. The bong buckets were a gag, not a real product, and the phone bucket is what’s actually coming to theaters.

This is worth keeping in mind when evaluating the phone bucket itself. The Scary Movie marketing team has already shown they’re willing to bait-and-switch with fake product teases to generate hype. There’s no reason to believe the phone bucket is fake, since it was confirmed through Discussing Film rather than leaked through official social media, but it’s not unreasonable to wait for clearer confirmation before planning anything around it.
