75,000 2024 Flowing Hair Silver Medals were struck and sold for $104

Standard coins are reselling for $200, marked examples have flipped for $3,000+
Earlier this week, the US Mint sold a limited collection of highly collectable silver coins. These were modern reproductions of a coin first struck in 1794, and the response from collectors has been overwhelming. Within days of the sale we’ve seen a massive amount of these coins reselling for well over what they cost from the mint, and certain special variants have flipped for thousands of dollars. Let’s get started.
If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you should know that we’re willing to flip just about anything. Vinyl records, electric cars, books, toys, soda, and even coins.
And just because you might not know much about a particular subject doesn’t mean you can’t flip it. In fact, with a little research and a quick read over one of our articles, anyone can make a profit reselling some of the items we covered.
So don’t worry if you don’t know anything about coin collecting. Many RC Elite members were able to get in on this flip with no prior experience.
Now, just what happened? On Tuesday, October 15, the US Mint sold a new collection of silver coins. These 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medals were a reproduction of an identical design originally struck in 1794, the very first dollar coin ever minted by the nascent United States government.
These were struck from 99.9% silver and weighed in at one troy ounce. 75,000 total Flowing Hair Silver Medal reproductions were produced, and the US Mint charged $104 for each one.
Also included was a slick black display case complete with an embossed image of the coin on the outside.
Pretty cool right? And while all of the coins struck were popular and valuable, a small percentage would be significantly more collectable.
Out of the 75,000 coins minted, just 1,794 of them would feature an additional “230” privy mark in honor of the coin’s 230th anniversary. This dramatically increases the value of an individual coin to a collector.
And it doesn’t stop there. Out of these 1,794 coins, 230 of them would leave the US Mint with a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by US Mint Director Ventris C. Gibson.
For the math-averse, around 2.4% of the total coins struck would receive a 230 privy mark, and just 0.3% of the total stock would ship with a Certificate of Authenticity.
With all this excitement around the drop and the special features the Mint threw in, you’d think this sale would go down pretty fast, right?
Well, maybe, depending on your definition of “fast”. The 2024 Flowing Hair Silver Medal reproductions did sell out, but it took over 24 hours for all the coins to go. Considering there were 75,000 at $104 a piece, that’s not exactly surprising.
But compared to some of the items we’ve covered, it’s nearly glacial. Pretty much any reseller that was aware of this item could’ve stocked up on as many coins as they wanted to, and that’s what many did.
And while some saw the “slow” sellout as a bad sign, it didn’t take long to start seeing confirmed sales. Within a few days, 2024 Flowing Hair Silver Medal coins are reselling for about $200 at a time.
It’s worth noting that most of these sales are for coins in hand. The Mint allows you to select multiple shipping options at purchase, with optional one day shipping adding $20 to your order or two week shipping available for $5.
While the latter option might be better for your bottom line, it adds considerable risk to the flip. If the market is hot out the gates but drops off by the time you get your coin, you missed out on easy money by trying to save a few bucks.
And don’t forget, these sales are just for the standard coins. A small number of the 230 Privy Mark Flowing Hair Silver Medals have sold since Tuesday, and these are usually going for upwards of $3,000.
Now that’s a payday. This flip was essentially a 1/50 chance of making thousands of dollars from a $100 purchase. Considering that you could (more or less) buy as many coins as you want, plenty of resellers chose to let it ride and are now taking in the profits.
And if you’re wondering about the super-rare privy marked coins with Certificates of Authenticity, we haven’t seen any sales yet. The extra slip of paper probably won’t add much extra value, so don’t get your hopes too high.
If you missed out on this flip, you might be thinking you never had a chance in the first place. Only coin nerds knew about it, right? Are you really supposed to be aware of every niche drop that hits the internet?
Of course not, but smart resellers know that staying connected is half the battle. You might not be a coin expert, but you don’t need to be when you’re part of a larger reselling network. RC Elite members were pinged 24 hours ahead of the sale, and had the whole opportunity laid out for them.
When they went live, members had everything they needed to take stock. Now that their coins are shipping, they’re making hundreds of dollars in profit for a few seconds of clicking. Just another Tuesday for us.
If you want to get in on profitable flips like this and expand your reselling horizons, you need to join RC Elite. We’re posting some of the hottest products every day, and you’re leaving profit on the table by missing out.
Of course, not everyone likes making easy money. Working hard builds character, scalpers are lazy, yadda yadda yadda. If you prefer to watch from the sidelines, you can always subscribe to our newsletter and stay updated on everything RC Elite members are cooking.
