The King of the Hill x WD-40 limited-edition 12oz can retails for under $10 at Home Depot locations nationwide
Early sales on eBay show the cans flipping for $20 to $30, roughly 3x retail
Availability runs through August 31 or while supplies last, with stock likely varying by location
We covered these back when they were first announced, and now the cans are actually on shelves. A lot of fans probably forgot this was happening, which means some stores may still have decent stock while the rest of the internet catches up. The margin here is real but modest, and the market is still finding its footing. If you can get to a Home Depot today, this is worth a look.
King of the Hill x WD-40 is one of those collaborations that makes total sense once you remember the origin. In Season 2’s “Three Days of the Kahndo,” Hank Hill pulls a backup can of WD-40 from his holster to free the stuck cap on a larger can. WD-40 put the question to fans about what they wanted on a limited can, King of the Hill won, and here we are.
The 12oz can features the alley fence from the opening, the series logo, and the tagline “Two American icons. One limited-edition can.” It’s a fully functional product and chemically identical to the standard lubricant-cum-degreaser formula that Americans have used and abused for generations.
Timing also matters. Season 15 premieres July 20 on Hulu, and the can is deliberately tied to that rollout. Media coverage and fan interest will keep building into summer. We’re still early.
Sales are trickling in rather than flooding, so treat the $20 to $30 range as current early-market pricing rather than a floor. The thin volume cuts both ways: prices could climb as the Hulu premiere brings more fans back into the fold, or they could flatten if Home Depot restocks consistently through the summer.
The smart play is to grab a small quantity now, list right away, and see how they move. Flipping 5 to 10 cans at $20 to $30 after eBay’s fees nets roughly $10 to $20 per can on a sub-$100 investment. Not groundbreaking, but a solid return on a quick stop.
What we’d avoid is going deep before the market develops. These are available through August and supply isn’t strictly capped. If demand softens mid-summer, you could be sitting on a lot of $9 cans.
The good news is that Home Depot’s standard 90-day return policy should apply to these, which takes a lot of the sting out of a worst-case scenario. If sales don’t materialize, you can likely return unopened cans for a full refund. It’s worth confirming with a store associate before stocking up, since branded promotional items occasionally carry different terms. Check before you buy more than you’re willing to hold.
Availability is also location dependent at this point. Some stores may have shelves full of them; others may have already sold through their initial stock. Calling ahead before making a dedicated trip is a good idea.
