The 007 First Light Limited Edition DualSense is $85, preoorders open April 17 at 7 AM PT
Limited edition PS5 controllers have flipped well in the past, but recent releases have stalled
The design has gotten mixed reviews; sales will be tied to the game’s success
James Bond is back in gaming for the first time in over a decade, and Sony is marking the occasion with a limited edition controller. Whether that’s enough to get resellers interested is a different question. The 007 First Light Limited Edition DualSense features a gold finish with barrel-inspired detailing on the touchpad, a design PlayStation describes as a “celebration of Bond’s return.” Pre-orders open April 17, and the controller launches May 27 alongside the game.
The 007 First Light DualSense is priced at $84.99, which is $6 above a standard controller and in line with what Sony charges for other limited edition variants. The design leans into Bond’s iconography with a golden sheen and a gun barrel motif on the touchpad. It carries all the standard DualSense features, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
Pre-orders go live April 17 at 7 AM PT through direct.playstation.com, with participating retailers also opening at the same time. Free launch day delivery is available for eligible pre-orders through PlayStation Direct. As with previous limited editions, quantities are described as limited globally.
Limited edition DualSense controllers have been a reliable flip category in the past. The Helldivers 2 controller sold for up to $200 on eBay while still available at retail, which worked out to roughly $90 in profit after eBay’s fees. Even the Concord controller, tied to one of gaming’s biggest commercial flops, held value in the $100-120 range long after release.
The problem is the category has cooled. The Marathon controller launched in January with a bolder, more visually striking design and a dedicated Bungie fanbase behind it, and it still hasn’t sold out. If that one stalled, the 007 controller’s more restrained gold-finish aesthetic faces a harder road. Bond has cultural cachet and hasn’t had a major game in over 13 years, which creates some collector interest, but early design reactions have been lukewarm.
Wait on this one. Preorders don’t open until April 17, and these will likely not sell out instantly based on previous releases. You’ll have time to evaluate the game’s reviews, and decide if you want to try and flip a controller. PlayStation Direct’s return policy typically allows returns within 30 days of the ship date, which limits your downside if you do commit, but confirm the policy before pre-ordering.
One more angle worth watching: if you’re interested in the 007 First Light opportunity more broadly, we also covered the 007 First Light Legacy Edition collector’s set back when preorders opened. That $300 release, which includes a replica Golden Gun among other items, is still available roughly a month out from the game’s May 27 launch.
