“Arctic” is a transparent limited edition variant of the Orchid ORC-1 keyboard
The standard Orchid is currently flipping for $800 to $900 on eBay after multiple restocks
Only 3,000 units are being produced worldwide, priority is given to waitlist members
Telepathic Instruments made a name for itself by building one of the coolest music gadgets in recent memory, and now it’s dressing it up in one of the coolest colorways in recent memory. The Clear Orchid: Arctic is a fully transparent version of the cult chord-generating synthesizer that lets you peer inside at the hardware’s internals. It’s a limited run of 3,000 units dropping next Monday and the resale case here is strong.
The Orchid ORC-1 is a chord-generating digital synthesizer created by Telepathic Instruments, the music hardware company founded by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. The instrument runs on a proprietary chord logic algorithm that makes it easy for players of any skill level to generate complex, musically coherent progressions.
It’s been a hit with musicians, collectors, and resellers since its initial launch in 2024, selling out through multiple beta drops and building a loyal community around the brand. The Arctic variant is transparent, exposing the internal circuitry and electronics.
For gear heads and collectors, that’s a major draw — transparent colorways have carried real premium value in consumer electronics ever since the translucent iMac and Game Boy Color era, and Telepathic is leaning into that legacy hard. The drop also coincides with a standard Orchid restock and the launch of Pistil, a companion plugin that brings Orchid’s sound engine into DAWs.
Head to Telepathic Instruments’ website and join the mailing list and waitlist now if you haven’t already. Waitlist members get priority access when the drop opens Monday, May 11 at 5 PM PDT. The standard Orchid will restock at the same time at $650, so if you miss the Arctic, there’s a fallback option — though the resale upside on the standard is considerably lower at this point given how many restocks it’s seen.
Be at your device and ready at drop time. Previous Orchid drops have moved fast, and 3,000 units across global demand is not a lot of inventory.
The standard Orchid has held positive resale value through several restocks, currently trading between $800 and $900 on eBay. That’s a $150 to $250 margin before fees on a $650 retail price, respectable for a product that’s been available multiple times.
The Arctic should do better. Limited colorways of collector-friendly products almost always command a premium over the base model at launch, and the original Orchid was selling upwards of $1,200 before restocks brought prices down. A post-launch target of $1,000 to $1,200 is realistic. After eBay’s 13% fee on an $1,100 sale, you’re looking at roughly $257 net — a solid flip for a launch-day cop.
This is a fairly low-risk opportunity with considerable potential upside. While the $700 buy-in is intimidating, note that Telepathic Instruments offers 30-day returns for the Orchid, but reserves the right to refuse refunds to resellers. They may also amend that policy to exclude limited edition variants like the Arctic.
We feel confident about this drop. We strongly recommend that you join the waitlist as soon as possible, and consider joining Telepathic’s free Patreon community as they have previously released website passwords and drop information there.
