Topps launched their new Disney Genesis cards yesterday
These were highly limited, packs sold for $100 ($1,000 for a case of 10)
They are reselling for upwards of $500 per pack
In September, Topps acquired the exclusive global rights for Disney trading cards. The deal went into effect on January 1, 2025, and Topps launched their first Disney collection on the same day. The Topps Disney Genesis set includes 100 different cards, with base cards limited to 99. This is a highly desirable set from a new era of Topps, and collectors have responded. Within hours of the sets selling out, we’ve started tracking Topps Disney Genesis packs flipping for five times what they retailed for. Let’s get started.
While Disney has had its fingers in the trading card game for decades, it wasn’t until the last few years that they really doubled down. We were all over the launch of Disney’s Lorcana TCG, and now they’ve penned a new deal with Topps.
Here’s the headline: Topps is the new global partner for all new Disney trading cards as of yesterday. Their first product is the Disney Genesis set, which was sold exclusively through Topps’ webstore (also yesterday).
This is a 100 card collection, and the headline here is “rarity”. The cards in the Genesis collection are all based on iconic Disney and Marvel characters like Spider-Man and Mickey Mouse. Base cards are all limited to 99 cards.
There are seven different parallels with seven different rarities:
For those who hate math, that means that the Topps Disney Genesis set was limited to a total of 28,000 cards. These were sold as packs of five cards for $100, or a case with 10 packs for $1,000. Sales opened and closed on January 1, 2025, the first day that Topps’ Disney deal went into effect.
Topps sold their 5,600 packs in under five minutes, netting them a cool half mil. But what if we told you these cards are worth much more than that, at least to a collector?
Right now, Topps Disney Genesis trading card packs are reselling for over $500 at a time, five times what they retailed for. Additionally, we’ve seen ten-pack cases flip for over $7,000.
Things started a little slow, with the average pre-sale at around $200 ahead of the launch. Following the lightning-fast sell out, prices quickly shot up to where they are now. Resellers that got in on this drop are now making hundreds, even thousands of dollars of profit.
Missed out? Don’t feel too bad. This was a drop that you needed to be out ahead of, and the only way to stand a chance was to get on the site right as things went live.
