These were one of the most lucrative flips of 2023
Spiritforged booster boxes retail for $120 with drawing entries opening February 3rd at 9 AM PST
These same boxes are flipping for $200 to $250 right now, entry period is open for 48 hours
Future Riftbound drops will follow this system
Riot is taking steps to fight against scalping in their Riftbound TCG by completely adopting a lottery-based release system. This starts with their next restock for Spiritforged expansion. The entry period for drawings opens tomorrow at 9 AM, and you’ll have 48 hours to put your name in the hat. For collectors, this might seem like a win, but resellers will continue to reap profits on the Riftbound TCG moving forward.
The Spiritforged preorder on January 13th was pandemonium. Even with 50% more product than Origins, Riot’s store got hammered by sophisticated botting operations that locked out collectors. The combination of massive demand and automated purchasing overwhelmed the site within minutes.
This follows a pattern we’ve seen with other TCG launches. When Disney Lorcana dropped in 2023, their limited starter sets sold out instantly and flipped for double or triple retail. Riftbound has the same advantages: massive League of Legends fanbase, established IP, and Riot’s esports infrastructure backing the competitive scene.
Instead of first-come-first-serve madness, Riot’s implementing a 48-hour entry window for each product drop. You sign in with your Riot ID and enter drawings for the products you want: Spiritforged booster displays, Rumble Champion Decks, or Fiora Champion Decks. If your name gets drawn, you’ll receive a purchase link valid for 24 hours.
The first registration window runs from February 3rd at 9am Pacific through February 5th at 9am Pacific. Winners start getting notified February 9th, with final purchase windows closing February 13th when products begin shipping. If someone doesn’t complete their purchase within 24 hours, Riot redraws from the remaining pool.
Riot’s being intentionally vague about their fraud detection measures, but they’ve specifically warned that multiple account entries will get flagged. They’re also checking that accounts are real and have verified email addresses.
The lottery system is simultaneously a nerf and a simplification. Bots and monitors just lost most of their edge, but casual resellers got a major boost. Instead of camping product pages or running automation, you can just enter the drawings when they open and move on with your day.
The key advantage is volume potential. You can theoretically enter every single Riftbound drawing going forward and collect profit whenever your name hits. No more missing drops because you were at work or asleep when inventory loaded. No more competing with bot farms running hundreds of checkout attempts per second.
The downside is unpredictability. You’re not guaranteed to win entries, and you can only secure one booster display per drawing. For resellers used to copping multiple units, this caps individual flip potential per drop.
Spiritforged boxes are showing significantly stronger demand than Origins. English presale boxes are currently selling for $200 to $250 on eBay with active sold listings. At $120 retail, that’s $80-130 gross profit per box. After eBay’s 13% fees, you’re looking at $54-96 net profit per box, which translates to 45-80% margins.
The elevated Spiritforged pricing makes sense. This is the second set release, demand is proven after Origins’ success, and the botted-out preorder created artificial scarcity that’s driving prices up. Several eBay listings show 14+ units already sold at the $200-250 range, confirming this isn’t just inflated asking prices but actual market movement.
Tomorrow morning at 9am Pacific, hit all three drawing sites:
You can enter one, two, or all three, but only once per product. Make sure your Riot account has a verified email and that Riot’s emails aren’t filtered to spam. Set a calendar reminder because the 48-hour window is firm.
The beauty of this system is you don’t need to optimize timing. Whether you enter at 9:01am or 8:59am on February 5th, your chances are identical. Riot’s drawing randomly from the full pool after registration closes.
The lottery system won’t kill reselling for Riftbound, it just changes the game. Botters took a massive hit, but regular resellers who stay on top of drawing announcements can still eat. At $54-96 profit per box, these margins are significantly better than Origins and worth the effort of entering drawings.
The elevated pricing on Spiritforged comes from proven demand after Origins’ success combined with the artificial scarcity created by the botted preorder sellout. Whether these margins hold once lottery winners receive their stock in mid-February depends on how much volume hits the market, but the early presale movement suggests strong sustained demand.
Keep an eye out for future Spiritforged drawings. If the current $200-250 presale pricing holds, these represent serious profit potential for minimal effort. Set up notifications on Riftbound’s social channels so you don’t miss entry windows.
Enter tomorrow’s drawings, see if you hit, and adjust your strategy based on results. This is Riot’s first run with the lottery system, so they’ll likely keep tweaking the process based on feedback.
