Pokemon’s Blooming Waters collection features the original 151 Pokemon
Sets are available online and in stores for $60
Resellers are flipping them for double their MSRP
Another day, another big drop from the Pokemon Company. They recently restocked their popular “Blooming Waters” collection online and at retailers across the country. Fans, collectors, and resellers all jumped on the opportunity, and we saw pretty much every available box sell out fast. Now they’re reappearing on eBay for a serious premium, with resellers regularly doubling their money with each sale. Let’s get into it.
You might know this already, but there’s a lot of money in nostalgia. Companies have been cashing in on cherished childhood memories over the last few years, and resellers have been there for every step of the journey.
Last month, the Pokemon Company debuted a new series of trading cards: the Blooming Waters collection. These feature the original 151 Pokemon that first released back in the 90s, and have been a huge hit with fans.
Old favorites get new art, and there are several highly collectable variants of popular cards like Charizard, Pikachu, and Mew. It’s (almost) as good as snagging an original base set, and much easier to find.
Pokemon Blooming Waters sets were available as Premium boxes for $60. These contained 12 booster packs and four cards featuring Venusaur, Blastoise, Venasaur EX, and Blastoise EX, as well as an oversized Blastoise EX card for display.
The cards have released sporadically in stores and online over the last few weeks. While buying online may be more convenient, catching a restock at your local retailer can be much more lucrative. We’ve seen reports that Costco is not enforcing quantity limits on these cards, meaning you can stock up on a ton of sets to resell with one trip.
Step aside collectors, this drop was made for resellers. The Pokemon Company has been on a hot streak lately between this collection and the recent Prismatic Evolutions set, and we’re seeing strong demand and plenty of sales for new releases.
Right now, Pokemon Blooming Waters Premium sets are reselling for around $90 to $120 at a time, just about double what they retailed for.
Depending on how many boxes a reseller manages to snag, flipping these Pokemon cards represents a potential profit of hundreds of dollars at a time, and a pretty simple way to double your money. We’ll take that any day of the week.
