Limited edition items were only available to users on the NTWRK app in limited quantities
Money counters sold for $140, and resellers were able to sell them for $500 or more easily
They became a permanent offering in 2021 and killed the market
Celebrity jeweler Ben Baller has done several collaborations with the commerce app NTWRK in the past. These gold plated money counters released in October 2019 exclusively through the NTWRK app, and immediately sold out. Since then, resellers have been able to sell them for anywhere from $500-$600, even years after their release.
If you’re looking for something ostentatious, that makes it clear you really, REALLY, like money, why not go for a gold-plated money counter? Well known for his outrageous and instantly-recognizable chains and other jewelry, Ben Baller would lend his name to this series of money counters as part of a collaboration with commerce app NTWRK in 2019.
NTWRK bills itself as a platform for “curated livestream shopping with world-class creators” aiming to bridge the gap between celebrity and consumption. Users are able to buy various items related one way or another to high fashion or popular culture. From live streamers to models, if someone has something to sell, they can list it through NTWRK.
So, when looking for a collaborator as part of a marketing push for the platform in October 2019, Ben Baller made for an excellent choice. His designs already fit in well with the confluence of wealth and culture targeted by the app. The initial collaboration would feature a limited production run of money counters, and users would need to download and use the NTWRK app to make a purchase.
This first promotion was an instant success, and the counters sold out very quickly. Listings on Grailled and Stockx would take off quickly, skyrocketing to over $400 within a week. In fact, prices would continue to climb from there, with a handful of sales in 2020 exceeding $1,000.
The following year, NTWRK would make the money counters available through the app again. Again, supplies were sold out almost immediately, and this time the aftermarket price would reach $500 or more.
Since these releases, the counters held their value surprisingly well, typically reselling at or above the $500 mark. Apparently this taste of money was not enough for the celebrity jeweler or NTWRK, as they decided to make the collaboration a permanent fixture.
In 2021, Ben Baller returned to NTWRK for good. A new line of gold plated gadgets is sold exclusively through NTWRK, including the Ben Baller Money Counter 2.0. Like the first iteration, this one can count your bills for you, and accepts all kinds of currencies. The 2.0 also includes an additional digital screen to display the quantity of money counted.
These are now available for purchase with no quantity limits on the NTWRK site, along with a (gold) toaster, (gold) Taylormade putter, and (gold) mini fridge, all for upwards of $200. While this is great news for certain individuals who love the idea of filling their home with BB merch, it’s done little for the resellers seeking to profit from it.
As you might guess, the resell price of the original run of money counters has completely tanked. That’s what happens when “limited edition” actually means “limited until we want to make more money”. Most of these stupid money counters now resell for under retail.
Anyways, that’s all for now. Just remember that there were people buying these for a grand in 2020 if you ever need a laugh.
