Microsoft and Mega Bloks have produced a set based on the Xbox 360
The set is a Target exclusive, preorders cost $150
They were sold out in under an hour, and many eBay listings have since gone up
Do you like LEGOs? And Halo? And Xbox? Well congratulations, you’re a 13 year old boy, or at least think like one. Us too! And we have something you’ll want to see. Yesterday morning, Microsoft and Mega Bloks teamed up to drop a surprise product on us: a 3:4 scale model of an original Xbox 360 made from LEGO-compatible Mega Bloks. Included is the console, a controller, and replica Halo 3 disc and case. If you spent hours tinkering in Forge or competing to be the most toxic player in the lobby, this is the set for you. They are now totally sold out, and likely to resell at a significant markup.
Yes, it’s true, everyone’s favorite red ringer has been immortalized in plastic bricks. It’s not LEGO, but Mega Bloks. That makes sense considering Mega Bloks’ relationship with Halo and Microsoft, and they’re just as good. Mega Bloks are fully compatible with LEGO bricks anyway.
The Xbox 360 Mega Bloks set is a 3:4 scale model of the OG console in white, meaning it stands around 9 inches tall. Pull back the siding to reveal a detailed interior with a disc drive, fans, and a chip that looks like it has Cortana inside.
You also get an adorable mini-controller complete with all the expected buttons and movable thumbsticks, along with a (replica) copy of Halo 3. Best of all, the set even has working lights on both the console and controller to really bring everything together.
It’s an awesome way to celebrate the best console of the best generation, and is being received very well online. Xbox 360 Mega Bloks sets were first sold on September 8 at 7 A.M. Pacific, and were a Target exclusive product. They cost $150, and are expected to start shipping in October.
Unfortunately, if you missed out when these went live, you’re a bit out of luck. These Xbox 360 Mega Bloks sets sold out in under an hour, and have yet to restock. Since then, we’ve seen a number of them go up on eBay, usually around double the price.
As of this writing there have been no sales, but that’s likely to change. Sold out products like these tend to do very well on the aftermarket, and Mega Bloks have been especially popular lately. Their recent Falcon Sweep model is reselling for nearly double retail after going live earlier this month.
With such a popular product and so many people missing out on it, a restock is on everyone’s mind. In all likelihood, the Mega Bloks Xbox 360 will probably restock. None of their marketing mentioned this being any sort of a limited set, and it selling out in an hour is probably a best case scenario for all parties involved.
Now that they know demand is there, it seems like another production run is likely. If you missed out on this, keep an eye out for more updates from Mega Bloks on this set. This is still a pretty niche product, so any restocks will still be pretty limited. This probably won’t be a set you can expect to find on Target shelves super easily.
That’s all for today. This has been a huge year for video games on both sides of the console war. If you’re a smug Xbox owner, make sure to read our article on Stafield’s sold out Constellation Edition. PlayStation kids, you’re welcome to gloat about Baldur’s Gate 3 Collector’s Editions passing the $1,000 mark.
