Key Points

  • Bethesda released $155 Anniversary Editions for New Vegas, 15 years after its release

  • Many fans were hoping for a remaster and were disappointed by the release

  • They’re open for preorder now and expected to ship in June

If you didn’t hear, October 23 has been marked as “Fallout Day”. The date coincides with the start of the in-universe nuclear bombing, and Bethesda has used it as an opportunity to hype up fans and drop new merch. This time, the day almost perfectly coincided with the release of “Fallout: New Vegas”, with many hoping for news of a remaster similar to the recent “Oblivion” remake. Instead, they got an expensive collector’s edition of the same game from 2010. The decision has not gone over well, and Bethesda still has these editions in stock.

FNV 15th Anniversary Editions

Fifteen years and a week ago, Bethesda published “Fallout: New Vegas“. The game itself was developed separately through an 18-month contract with Obsidian Entertainment, who’d go on to describe Bethesda’s involvement in the project as “hands-off“.

And while it had its issues, it’s widely regarded as one of the best RPGs ever built. Many Fallout fans consider it the highlight of the series.

Aside from unofficial fan projects, the game has never received a remaster or remake, or really any attention beyond its initial release in 2010. Bethesda hasn’t been keen to actually remake their old games until recently, with the 2025 “Oblivion” remake introducing a new generation of fans to the classic.

Add in the fact that Bethesda didn’t actually develop “New Vegas”, and many fans have insinuated there’s a degree of quiet resentment that Obsidian’s version of Fallout has received more praise and acknowledgment than their own games.

For much of the last decade, Bethesda has been content to simply ignore that “New Vegas” exists. Sure, they’ve hawked a few bits of merch when convenient, but it wasn’t until the Fallout Prime series that we started to see any real mentions of the game’s events in recent canon.

So the seeming change in tone along with “New Vegas”‘ 15th anniversary falling alongside “Fallout Day” had many hoping Bethesda would announce an official remaster.

Instead they got an “Anniversary Edition“. For $155, you can snag a digital bundle of the game with all DLC, an 8” statuette of Victor the Securitron, a handful of Rorschach tests, some pins and patches, and a unique “Collector’s Big Box” to house it all.

If you’re wondering, yes, the original “Fallout: New Vegas” release in 2010 included an $80 collector’s edition, so this is just Bethesda double-dipping to the max.

Normally, we’d salute them for it (as long as we could take some profits), but this release has gone over pretty poorly with Fallout fans. Most see it as a sign of pretty poor taste to spend a decade straight ignoring a game’s existence only to hawk an overpriced collector’s edition purely out of convenience.

Especially considering how many had their hopes set on a surprise remaster announcement. That might sound unreasonable, but the Oblivion remaster was actually announced and released on the same day. A “Fallout: New Vegas” remaster could’ve gone the same way.

Are FNV Anniversary Editions Worth Buying?

Despite its tepid reception, there are plenty of resellers eyeing the “New Vegas” 15th Anniversary Release as a potential flip. Video game collector’s editions can be extremely lucrative under certain circumstances, and we already know that this game has a dedicated fanbase.

Let’s take a look at the original “New Vegas” collector’s editions we mentioned earlier. Obviously these have become pretty valuable since the game’s release and rise to legendary status. One just sold for $900, more than 10 times its retail price in 2010.

That’s an extreme and pretty unfair example, sure, but it does speak to the kind of sentimental value fans put on the game more than a decade after its release.

Bethesda has given them the chance to throw their money away to prove their dedication. Will they take it? Maybe not, at least from the way they’re talking, but gamers are pretty notorious for spending their money in stupid ways. We’ve written tons of articles about video game collector’s editions flipping for triple digit profits, why not this one?

Please note we’re not making any strong recommendations about whether these are worth buying. While Bethesda allows cancellations on preordered items before their ship dates, “limited edition” items are specifically excluded from this policy. These are expected to ship in June 2026 so there might be some wiggle room, but be cautious. You could end up with unsellable, unreturnable, and unprofitable stock.
