Signed copies of Brandon Sanderson’s “Wind and Truth” sold for $52
They are expected to ship in December
Resellers are flipping them for more than $150
Last month, the fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson signed a limited number of copies of his upcoming book “Wind and Truth”. These were available to preorder well ahead of the slated December release, and both fans and resellers were to quick to jump on the opportunity. Now that they’ve sold out, those who missed out are eager to throw down cash to get theirs. In some cases, we’ve seen these signed books flip for more than three times what they originally sold for.
Are you familiar with Brandon Sanderson? While he’s been writing fiction for over two decades now, Sanderson has had a massive surge in popularity over the last few years, and is one of the most talked about fantasy writers active right now (No, G.R.R. Martin doesn’t count).
He’s also quite prolific. Sanderson works on several different series’ at the same time, and his readers are excitedly awaiting the fifth book in his “Stormlight Archive” arc. “Wind and Truth” is set to release in December, and readers had a chance to snag something truly cool last month.
A very limited amount of signed “Wind and Truth” books were made available for preorder in September. These went up for sale through several different retailers for about $50, and were a great opportunity for any serious fan to pick up Sanderson’s signature.
And while these were definitely popular, they didn’t sell out instantly. Resellers that were aware of the books were able to buy a few quite easily, and it took a few days for all of them to sell.
Based on a blog post from Sanderson, it sounds like he signed more “Wind and Truth” copies compared to his previous novels, and estimates the total amount at around 15,000 copies.
Of course, autographs are (theoretically) limited, and there won’t ever be enough to go around. For Sanderson fans that missed the memo, their opportunity to buy one of these via retail has officially flown. Fortunately, they still have a few options.
Right now, Brandon Sanderson signed “Wind and Truth” books are reselling for around $150, with a string of recent sales in October. Some sellers have managed to flip theirs for over $170.
This was a pretty easy call to make. While there’s always a little risk when it comes to selling signed merch, Sanderson’s popularity means that there are plenty of fans out there willing to pay up.
And we’ve seen some of his past signed books flip for impressive numbers. Signed copies of works like “The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook” and “The Rhythm of War” have resold for similar numbers, and we’ve even seen sales for as much as $300.
All of this is to say, don’t sleep on signed books. Reading is fun, and the last few years have seen a popular resurgence of the hobby thanks to social media trends like BookTok.
We’ve covered other profitable books from celebrity authors like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dolly Parton, but even works signed by traditional writers like Rebecca Yarros can be extremely lucrative.
If you’re a reseller, make sure that you’re not passing up opportunities like these. Signing up for our newsletter is an easy way to stay updated on the latest flips, and you can expect new flips every day.
