Aimé Leon Dore and Technics Drop a $2,100 Turntable

The Technics SL-1200 is about as iconic as audio equipment gets. DJ culture has orbited around this deck for decades, and Technics’ direct-drive motor design has been the standard for club and studio use since the 1970s.

This collab takes the modern M7 variant and finishes it in ALD’s signature Mulberry Green with bespoke detailing and a co-branded slipmat. The coreless direct-drive motor and S-shaped aluminum tonearm are retained from the base model, meaning you’re not just paying for the paint job. ALD founder Teddy Santis put it plainly in a statement to DJ Mag: “I still buy records today, and I still have Technics turntables in my house, my office, and in our stores.”

The drop also came with a full capsule collection. The standout outside the turntable is a $1,500 14k gold pendant that’s worth a look for jewelry resellers, and a $175 soccer jersey that fits more comfortably in ALD’s streetwear wheelhouse. Both face the same unknowns as the turntable on the resell side.

Let’s go over some facts. The turntable dropped March 19 and is still sitting in stock over 48 hours later. That’s not nothing. A $2,100 entry point is steep, and without a disclosed production cap, there’s no urgency for buyers to move fast. ALD hasn’t said how many were made.

That said, this is an extremely high-profile collab. ALD commands one of the most dedicated followings in the streetwear world, and its resell history on hardware-adjacent pieces is legitimate. A limited-edition Technics in Mulberry Green, paired with ALD’s track record, gives this real long-term potential in the right hands.

The problem for resellers is timing and capital. If you’re holding a $2,100 final-sale turntable waiting for the right buyer, you need patience and the funds to absorb a potential loss. There’s no eBay sold-listing data to benchmark against right now, and the buyer pool for a $2,100+ ALD collectible is narrow by nature.

The collab has the pedigree and the aesthetic to appreciate over time, particularly if ALD continues to grow and the production run turns out to be genuinely small. But with no quantity disclosed, demand clearly not spiking on launch, a $2,100 final-sale buy-in, and no secondary market data to lean on, this is a high-risk hold for resellers right now. Buy it if you love the object. Flip it only if you have the patience and the capital to sit on it.
