Is the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Leak Real?

The images making the rounds show packaging rather than the console itself, but the artwork is detailed enough to piece together the design. The console and dock are done up in black and gold, with an interlocking triforce grid pattern and a large triforce centered on the dock. The Joy-Cons are a muted green with matching triforce accents, and the left controller carries the Hylian Crest in the corner. The Nintendo Switch 2 has not had a limited edition variant since launching in June 2025, which makes this a significant first for the console line.

A Pro Controller leaked alongside it, carrying the same black, gold, and green motif with its own triforce and Hylian Crest detailing. Nintendo has historically sold Pro Controllers separately from special edition consoles, so expect that pattern to hold here.

In an age of high quality AI-generated imagery, it’s impossible to say whether or not these are legit. Our take: these look pretty real. The small text on the back of the Pro Controller remains legible even across hundreds of tiny characters, and there are no obvious artifacts of AI generation. The slight waviness in the designs could be the result of image upscaling, a low resolution picture, or a intentional design choice by Nintendo. We think these are probably real, but there’s nothing wrong with being skeptical.

This leak builds on rumors that first surfaced back in the spring. We covered the original claims in April, when leaker Shpeshal Nick said a limited edition Zelda console was in the works alongside a full remake of Ocarina of Time. At the time, the console claim was the less verified half of the rumor.

Since then, additional leakers and now these packaging images have corroborated the hardware side of the story, even as the game itself still lacks an official release date. Nintendo has stayed quiet on both fronts, but a Direct focused on the remake seems like the natural place for all of this to become official. 2026 is all the official info we have on a release date, so that reveal should be coming soon.

Some fans believe the Ocarina of Time remake will release mid-November. The month is conspicuously lacking a major first party release, and there are several Amiibo releases scheduled for November 11. Nintendo usually drops new Amiibo alongside a first party release.

We’ve said it before and it’s still true: Nintendo limited editions tend to sell out fast and stay scarce, which is exactly the setup resellers look for. If these consoles are real, and all signs indicate they are, they will likely resell for a profit on day 1.

Additionally, this is the first limited edition Switch 2 variant. Fans have been waiting for their chance to get their hands on something unique for a while now.

When the Switch 2 launched, Nintendo rolled out a gated preorder system through My Nintendo that required accounts to have been established prior to the console’s reveal, at least 12 months of Nintendo Online membership, and at least 50 hours of gameplay logged on the original Switch.

Nintendo could use a similar eligibility system for a limited edition console. If that happens, accounts that were created after the console’s official reveal would likely be ineligible for the early preorder window.

That detail matters right now. The Ocarina of Time console has not been officially announced yet. If Nintendo uses the same reveal-date cutoff they used for the Switch 2, the window to create an eligible account is still technically open. Readers who do not already have a Nintendo account might want to create one now, before any announcement drops.

We want to be very clear: this is speculative advice based on a pattern from one prior launch. Nintendo has not confirmed they will use any eligibility system for future hardware. But given what we saw last year, it is a reasonable precaution with very little downside.
