Fans of the band Gojira have an opportunity to pick up the band’s breakthrough album Magma on a unique “lava” vinyl. Preorders are open now through three Atlantic Records-affiliated distributors. This run will be limited to just 500 units split across retailers, so don’t expect it to stick around much longer.

Atlantic Records is behind the reissue, and it’s a straightforward one: the full 10-track Magma sequence pressed on a lava-effect variant, available now through Brooklyn Vegan’s shop alongside matching listings at Revolver and Veeps. All three are pricing it at $31.99 with a November 13 release date.

Gojira’s story is a long grind before the payoff. The band spent its first decade as a well-regarded but niche name in technical death metal, building a reputation through albums like From Mars to Sirius and The Way of All Flesh before Magma cracked the Billboard 200 at number 24 and went gold in France.

The album’s more melodic, accessible turn is generally credited with pulling Gojira into rooms it hadn’t been in before. The band has only continued to grow since then, including a performance at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Gojira has been leaning into nostalgia with recent anniversary releases. Earlier this year, they launched a unique zoetrope vinyl celebrating From Mars to Sirius‘ 20th anniversary. These have performed modestly on the second market, trading only $10 to $20 over retail after their release.

It’s worth noting that this vinyl was limited to 3,000 units. That’s a considerable gap between Magma‘s lava vinyl variants, and it might be enough to tip the numbers in favor of vinyl resellers.
