Ghost of Yotei PS5 Special Editions Revealed

Following up the 2020 smash hit “Ghost of Tsushima”, Sucker Punch is set to release “Ghost of Yotei” in October. The game is set more than 300 years after the first game so it’s not exactly a sequel; but offers similar open-world, katana-toting gameplay that players loved.

To celebrate the game and milk a little extra money from their fanbase, Sony revealed an extensive “Ghost of Yotei” collection for the PS5. This includes limited edition controllers and consoles, as well as unique skins that can be applied to existing consoles.

The collection was only just revealed so details are pretty slim. No prices have been confirmed. Sony has stated that preorders will be opening soon. Still, let’s take a look at what’s been revealed and give our thoughts on what they might be worth.

The highlight of the collection are these bundles. They include a special “Ghost of Yotei” edition PS5 and matching special edition DualSense controller, along with a digital copy of the game with bonus content.

These are available with either gold or black artwork over a white base. It’s also worth noting that these are not PS5 Pro consoles; just the standard edition PS5 with a disc drive.

Based on similar products, we’re estimating that “Ghost of Yotei” PS5 bundles will retail for around $600. However, Sony has implied that a PS5 price hike may be coming soon, and these bundles may very well be included.

Still, with standard PS5s retailing for $500, DualSense controllers for $75, and the game itself priced at $70, the bundle looks like a decent deal if it retails at our predicted price.

Other special edition PS5 controllers have retailed for $80. Assuming Sony keeps the same price, we’re expecting “Ghost of Yotei” DualSense controllers to cost the same amount.

And PS5 Pro owners will still be able to benefit from this collection. While the “Ghost of Yotei” special edition consoles are just standard PS5s, Sony is also releasing limited edition “Ghost of Yotei” console covers compatible with the PS5 and PS5 Pro.

These allow current console owners to customize their PS5 to fit the game. These covers are only available with the gold artwork, and can fit PS5 consoles with or without the disc drive.

Good question. This collection consists of six themed, collectable, and limited edition products for Sony fanboys to fanboy over. There’s definitely a market here, but it’s hard to estimate accurately without vital product information like price and quantity.

Still, we’ll take a stab at it. When the PS5 first launched, limited edition “Spider-Man 2” bundles retailed for $600 and were reselling for up to $800. Separate console skins were also available, and these flipped for around $150 – more than double the MSRP.

So there’s a precedent. “Ghost of Yotei” is getting a lot of attention already and we’re expecting this to be a successful release, now all that’s left is to wait for more intel from Sony.
