Key Points

  • Baldur’s Gate 3 Collector’s Editions include a code for exclusive in-game dice skins

  • Some resellers have taken to selling these codes separately

  • They have sold for more than $300 in the past as a completely digital item

Baldur’s Gate 3 has received a hero’s welcome in the last few weeks, shattering sales records, player counts, and hundreds of goblin skulls. Since its full release on August 3, Larian Studios’ latest game has gone down as one this decade’s definitive titles. That kind of recognition is also doing wonders for its collector’s editions. Actually, the game is so popular that resellers are profiting by parceling the game out piece by piece. Even a fully digital part of the collection, a unique skin for the in-game dice, is reselling for hundreds now.

Baldur's Gate 3 Collector's Dice Skin

First, if you haven’t read our in-depth look at the full Baldur’s Gate 3 Physical Collector’s Edition, check that out here.

Like most modern games, BG3 shipped a limited supply of premium Collector’s Editions. There was a bunch of stuff included; character sheets, MTG booster packs, a dope statue. What we’re looking at today is a purely digital piece of merchandise: digital dice.

If you bought a Baldur’s Gate 3 Collector’s Edition, you got a code that could be redeemed for a unique in-game skin of the D20 die used in the game. For a D&D based game, there’s obviously a lot of dice rolling, so a custom skin makes sense.

What doesn’t make sense is how batshit feral people would go for it. We’re not sure who the first clever reseller had the idea to flip their code on the side, but we salute them for it. Since BG3’s release, there have been several aftermarket sales for these digital dice, which earned the sellers enough profit to pay for their copies of the game.

Right now, codes for Baldur’s Gate 3 Collector’s Edition Dice are reselling for around $300 at a time. For context, the whole BG3 Collector’s Edition cost $270, when it was still available for sale.

It’s not like that torpedoes the set’s value either. Resellers have sold their Baldur’s Gate 3 Physical Collector’s Editions for nearly $1,000, even after hawking the dice code to someone else. Sometimes, it pays to play games. Or, at least to buy them before the nerds do and resell it.

That’s all for now. This has been a crazy year in games, and it’s only getting better. Starfield is coming out next week, so make sure you check out our article on Starfield Constellation Editions for an idea of the aftermarket around Bethesda’s newest title.
