The folks at Old Forester are usually regarded as competent professionals in the bourbon world. But when September 2nd rolls around each year, they become full-fledged rockstars.

What is Old Forester Birthday Bourbon?

Old Forester dates back to 1870, and was notably the first bourbon sold exclusively in sealed bottles. It was founded by pharmaceutical salesman George Garvin Brown, and was also one of the very few legal medicinal producers of bourbon in the US during prohibition. Suffice to say the company has a long, storied history.

But it wasn’t until 2002 that the brand started releasing the famous Birthday Bourbon, which has since grown into one of the most sought-after yearly expressions in the bourbon world.

Due to the limited nature of each year’s bourbon, Old Forester would hold first come, first serve release events in which hopeful buyers could form a line at the downtown Louisville, KY distillery — however, this event proved too overwhelmingly popular in recent years, causing the brand to switch the process to an online “sweepstakes” starting last year for the 2022 release.

Birthday Bourbon 2023 Raffle

For the 2023 Birthday Bourbon, Old Forester will be choosing 500 winners, each of which will get the opportunity to purchase a bottle for its $169.99 MSRP.

The raffle will be open for a total of 6 days, from August 24th, 9 AM ET through August 30th, 9 AM ET. Winners will then be notified starting around September 2nd.

If chosen a winner, you will be able to purchase your bottle during operating hours at the Old Foreseter Distillery Gift Shop from September 8th, 2023, through December 23rd, 2023. You must bring a government issued photo ID that matches your entry.

What is the Aftermarket Price of Birthday Bourbon 2023?

While the aftermarket price of Birthday Bourbon 2023 is hard to determine prior to its official release, it is very likely that bottles will be reselling on the aftermarket for at least $1,000 in the short term.

This estimate is based on the performance of the last few years of Birthday Bourbon releases. At this point, they are pretty formulaic and usually perform equally well on the aftermarket post-release, with slight variations based on how each blend reviews.
