Key Points

  • The Pokemon x Target collection launched in stores May 2 and online May 3

  • Many of the most popular items are flipping for two to three times MSRP

  • A restock is unlikely in the near term, and the online drop diluted margins compared to the in-store window

Pokemon turns 30 this year, and Target threw a real party. Over 100 items, a Joe Jonas campaign, legacy brand collaborations — this was one of the more ambitious retailer collabs of the spring. Resellers who showed up at store open on May 2 had the best of it. By the time the online drop went live a day later, the most coveted items were already moving on the secondary market, and the added supply from online purchases took some of the edge off prices. Still, a focused reseller could have walked away with several hundred dollars in profit over the last 48 hours.

Pokemon X Target Anniversary Collaboration

The Pokemon x Target collection was built around Pokemon’s 30th anniversary, with designs created by Target’s own team of fans. The collaboration brought in Starter, Mead, and Caboodles alongside the Pokemon brand, giving the collection a nostalgia angle that went beyond standard retail merch. Joe Jonas fronted the campaign, which helped push social awareness before the drop.

In-store availability started May 2 at open, giving early shoppers a full-day head start before anything went online. That timing mattered. Resellers who moved quickly in stores had first access to the most limited items, and could list immediately while online buyers were still waiting for their window.

Target Pokemon Kanto Jacket Reseller

This Starter jacket was one of the most popular items from the drop

The online launch on May 3 brought more inventory into the market and, predictably, softened prices on some items. The jacket’s four-per-customer limit helped contain the damage.

The most popular items are currently sold out across both channels. There’s no confirmed restock, and given the limited-edition framing Target used for this collection, one isn’t expected soon — if at all.

The Starter Kanto jacket is the headliner and is performing accordingly, sitting around $250 on eBay against a $129.99 retail price. After eBay’s roughly 13% fee, that works out to around $87 in profit per unit — solid for a single clothing item, especially one with a four-per-customer cap that limited how much any individual reseller could move.

Keyboards are performing well. The standalone wireless keyboard is fetching around $110, and the bundle with the matching keycaps set is going for $130 to $140. Resellers who followed the advice to bundle the $40 keyboard with the $10 keycaps are coming out ahead — the bundle commands a premium over the keyboard alone and is an easy upsell for buyers already interested in the product.

Target Pokemon Keyboard Jacket for Sale

The crossbody bag is the surprise of the drop. At $25 retail and currently flipping around $150, the margins here are exceptional. That’s nearly $100 in net profit on a $25 buy-in, which is the kind of return that makes a store trip worth it even if you only grabbed a few. The low retail price, wide appeal, and apparent scarcity made this one of the cleaner flips in the collection.

The Pokemon Pop-Tarts, which weren’t covered in our original alert, are worth a brief mention. Boxes retailed for $4 and are selling for $15 to $20 on eBay. That’s a strong multiplier on a tiny investment, and the low buy-in made it easy to grab a handful without much risk. Not a life-changing flip, but a nice add-on for anyone who was already making the run.

Target Pokemon Pop Tarts for Sale

The online drop on May 3 is the main reason prices aren’t higher across the board. Second-day online availability introduced additional supply and gave buyers a retail alternative, which put a ceiling on what the secondary market could bear. Resellers who moved on Day 1 in stores captured the best margins.

Bottom Line

A restock is the main risk factor. Target billed this as a limited-edition collection, but “limited” doesn’t always mean what resellers hope it means. If Target replenishes popular SKUs, prices will move down fast. Watch the product pages. For now, there’s no indication that’s coming.

The June 6 second wave of the collection is worth monitoring. If it includes comparable items at similar price points, it could introduce new flipping opportunities — or it could dilute demand for what’s already on the secondary market, depending on what drops.

This was a legitimate win for resellers who showed up early. The crossbody bag was the best flip in the collection on a return-per-dollar basis, the jacket delivered solid absolute profit, and the keyboard bundle rewarded anyone who took the bundling angle seriously. The Pop-Tarts were a low-effort bonus for anyone paying attention.

If you’re still holding inventory, sell sooner rather than later. Prices are reasonable now, and there’s no obvious catalyst to push them higher.
