Key Points

  • The Ducati Diavel 1260 is a collaborative effort between Ducati and Lamborghini

  • 630 Diavel 1260 Lamborghinis were produced, a nod to the 63 Sián FKP 37s made by Lamborghini

  • Allocations went to Ducati buyers instead of Lamborghini owners, many of which were able to resell their bikes for close to $100,000

Ducati’s collaboration with Lamborghini for the 2021 Diavel 1260 Lamborghini generated significant buzz in the sport bike world. While Ducati has done numerous limited-time collaborations with other companies, Lamborghini is the most notable. The 1260 Lamborghini is a companion bike with Lamborghini’s Sián FKP 37, taking numerous design cues from it. However, while the 1260 Lamborghini proudly struts its Lamborghini name, it is a Ducati bike and is sold through Ducati dealers. Thus, when the time came for buyers to ask for allocations, excited Lamborghini buyers found they were at the bottom of the list, and the Ducati riders received the first pick.

What is the Ducati Diavel 1260 "Lambo Bike"

First revealed in December 2020, Ducati’s collaboration with Lamborghini produced the Diavel 1260 Lamborghini. Essentially a redesign of Ducati’s popular 1260 platform, the 1260 Lamborghini is a companion to Lamborghini’s Sián FKP 37.

The distinctive green paint is derived from Lamborghini, dubbed “Gea Green”, while they clad the wheels and metal components in “Electrum Gold”. After the signature Lamborghini jet intake look, they modeled the air intakes and bodywork to resemble a Sián. Carbon fiber is standard on the bike and car, while the 1260 Lamborghini uses the same engine as the other 1260 bikes.

Ducati even produced a matching helmet to accompany the 1260 Lamborghini. It features the same green color found on the Sián and the 1260 Lamborghini and the large 63 decals found throughout.

Also, 63 is an important number for Lamborghini; 1963 was the year of the company’s formationn, and the Sián FKP 37 pays homage to this in its total production of 63 cars. The Ducati 1260 Lamborghini follows this by producing 630 bikes.

Did the Ducati Lambo Bike resell?

Ducati’s Diavel 1260 Lamborghini would resell significantly over retail. They only produced 630 Diavel 1260 Lamborghinis which sold from dealers for around $32,000. Furthermore, this is about a $5-$10k markup from the standard 1260, but it appears that Ducati had little trouble allocating stock.

Despite the prominent use of the Lamborghini name and badge, the 1260 Lamborghini is a Ducati product sold exclusively through Ducati dealerships.

When a car or bike manufacturer produces a limited edition vehicle, they provide a limited number to their dealers to distribute as they see fit. Dealers, in turn, are selective about who they sell the vehicle to. This is called an allocation.

In the 1260 Lamborghini’s case, they provided allocations to a Ducati dealer’s best customers. This is generally someone who has bought a significant number of bikes through the dealership or has some other connection with the dealer to get an allocation.

So when Lamborghini enthusiasts called Ducati dealers asking for an allocation, they got the cold shoulder. Instead, 1260 Lamborghinis would go to the bike owners, who may not have been interested in the Lamborghini badging.

While $32,000 is fairly expensive for a motorcycle, it is downright cheap for something with a Lamborghini badge on it. Ducati buyers, who shelled out for a 1260 Lamborghini from the dealer, found plenty of Lamborghini guys interested in taking it off their hands.

And how much were they willing to pay? More than $30k that is for sure. The aftermarket for these bikes has seemed to settle around $80-$90,000. However, dealerships have listed them for $100,000+, in one case at $124,000. A Bring a Trailer auction for a 1260 Lamborghini in August failed to meet reserve but received numerous bids over $60,000, with the auction eventually topping out at $71k.

Lamborghini Bike For Sale

Currently, these bikes are selling for under $100,000, but the price could rise soon. Remember, only 630 in total, and as more are bought and increase in mileage, pristine examples will increase in value.

These bikes will likely always hold a spot in a Lamborghini collector’s garage, and if they happen to be Ducati fans, too? That would be a major opportunity for a reseller.
