Danner produced a limited run of a boot worn by James Bond in No Time to Die
The 007 Tanicus sold for $240 through Danner’s website which could resell for up to $1,000
Resell prices tanked after a 2022 restock, but the boots still go for around double their retail price
Sixty years ago, the first Bond film hit the big screen. Dr. No launched both Sean Connery’s legendary career, as well as the James Bond film franchise. To celebrate this milestone, footwear company Danner created a special product: a reproduction of Bond’s boots worn during 2021’s No Time to Die. The boots proved exceedingly popular, selling out almost immediately through Danner’s online store. Fans quickly took to social media to complain, while others began forking over hundreds of dollars to resellers for their own Bond boot.
Danner’s “Bond Boot” is a remixed version of their Tanicus military boot. Crafted from black Goretex on a polyurethane sole, the 007 Tanicus cuts a sophisticated and discreet silhouette. The heel carries a subtle 007 badge, but other than that, there are few hints that what you are looking at is James Bond’s boot.
Designed for durability and endurance use, they made the 007 Tanicus from solid materials. Ballistic nylon reinforces the boot’s lightweight frame, keeping it strong, breathable, and above all, light. In addition to the high quality of the build, Danner offers a 365-day warranty, standard with all their footwear.
The 007 Tanicus comes in a special shoebox, which is black on black (of course), with gold accents. Inside the shoebox is a remarkably detailed lining that calls back to every one of Bond’s films.
2021’s No Time to Die is not the first time Bond has worn Danner. Spectre and Skyfall both featured the company’s designs, so it is clear that Danner has established itself as the special agent’s preferred tactical footwear provider.
After selling out in under ten minutes through Danner’s web store, those who missed out quickly took to social media to voice their complaints. Clearly, Danner intended these boots to be limited, but they might not have anticipated the intense demand they would attract.
Aftermarket sales of the 007 Tanicus took off immediately after the September 2021 release. As is typical with shoes, prices varied by size, with the larger sizes going for the most. The 007 Tanicus usually resold for around $400-$700, although it could sometimes go for $1,000 or more.
Throughout early and mid-2022, prices for the boot tended to rise. By August, most were hovering at the $500 mark. However, things would change quickly in the fall, after Danner announced a surprise October restock.
Sold through Danner’s site and the 007 webstore, the 2022 restock disrupted the aftermarket for the 007 Tanicus boots, but did not destroy it. Instead, it appears Danner once again restricted production to maintain the limited edition aspect of the boot.
The 007 Tanicus can still snag $300-$400, and they post higher prices for rarer sizes. While a restock was obviously not ideal, it did not entirely capsize the market, and resellers could still profit from the boot. It is also unlikely we will see this boot in stock again. The 2022 restock makes sense, considering that it is the 60th anniversary of James Bond.
That said, Danner has seen how profitable these boots can be and may elect to cash in again. If that happens, it is hard to say whether or not they would be worth buying. On the one hand, they have proven they would no longer be as rare or unique as they first seemed. But, on the other hand, restocks sell out in minutes and resell frequently.
The 007 Tanicus boot from Danner and James Bond marks another high-profile collaboration. This has been an increasingly common trend in the last few years and one that resellers consistently profit from. We’ve seen it previously in the collaboration with Microsoft and Wolverine to produce an extremely limited run of the Master Chief Boots for Halo Infinite. We encourage you to keep your eyes out for the next big collab and be ready to buy in.
