These were one of the most lucrative flips of 2023
The limited edition black Ryobi ONE+ HP drill retails for $100 exclusively at Home Depot stores
Current eBay listings show units flipping between $150 and $200 with multiple sold confirmations
Stores reportedly received allocations of only 5-10 units, making this one of Ryobi’s most limited releases
Home Depot is stocking Ryobi’s 30th anniversary limited edition drill, and resellers are already moving units for nearly double retail. The blacked-out ONE+ HP 18V Compact Brushless drill is inexpensive but hard to find, with reports indicating stores are being allocated just a handful to sell. This has created an opportunity for resellers to flip the drills for well above MSRP.
Ryobi’s celebrating 30 years of their ONE+ battery platform, which launched back in 1996 as the first cordless drill using a Ni-Cd battery. That three-decade battery compatibility is legitimately impressive in the power tool world, where most brands force you to rebuy everything when they switch systems.
For this anniversary, they went with an all-black stealth colorway instead of their signature lime green. It’s the same ONE+ HP brushless drill they’ve been selling in standard colors, but the limited black edition is what’s creating demand. The drill itself delivers 400 in-lbs of torque with a 2-speed motor (0-450 / 0-1,700 RPM) and weighs 30% less than older Ryobi models.
This is a Home Depot in-store exclusive, so you’ll need to call ahead or visit in person. With only 5-10 units per location and no online ordering option, availability varies wildly by market. Staff reports confirm stores in major metro areas sold through their allocation within days of receiving shipment.
The standard green version of this exact drill typically runs $79-89 at Home Depot, so you’re paying a $10-20 premium just for the black colorway at retail.
eBay’s showing the strongest demand right now. Recent sold listings confirm prices between $150 and $200, with most units moving around $175. After eBay’s 13% fees, you’re looking at roughly $39-74 profit per unit depending on your sale price.
Home Depot’s return policy does cover these within 90 days, which gives you a safety net if the secondary market collapses. That’s a major advantage over truly final-sale items. However, demand could soften quickly once the initial hype dies down and people realize this is functionally identical to the standard model.
The real risk is timing. If you sit on inventory too long, Ryobi might do another production run or the novelty factor wears off. List these fast and move them within 2-3 weeks for best results.
At 50-100% profit margins with a solid return policy backing you up, this is a decent flip if you can find inventory. The limited allocations mean you won’t be sitting on 20 units, which keeps risk low. Just don’t expect this to be a long-term hold, the value is in the immediate scarcity, not collectible status.
If you’re already hitting Home Depot for other flips, absolutely worth grabbing whatever they have left. Making a special trip? Only if you’ve got multiple stores nearby to check.
