Alien: Romulus is premiering at theaters across the country today. While everyone else is stuck in their seats watching the movie, clever resellers are hanging back in the lobby. What are they looking for? Popcorn buckets, specifically the ones that resell. Romulus has gotten a ton of attention online for some of the creative popcorn buckets theaters have spun up, and we’re expecting a very healthy aftermarket after the weekend. Let’s dig in.
What’s your go-to snack at the theater? Junior Mints? Mike and Ikes? Overpriced nachos and a short poured beer? In our opinion, no trip to the movies is complete without a few gallons of salty, greasy popcorn.
In the last few years, theaters have been jazzing up their popcorn buckets to coincide with new releases. Barbie was one of the first to really catch the mainstream, but recent releases from Dune and Ghostbusters have also been very popular.
These collectable popcorn buckets are usually available to buy through the theaters ahead of during the film’s premiere. They sell out fast and become very valuable on eBay, with resellers able to multiply their money 5 to 10 times.
Alien: Romulus is the next film in the Alien series. It’s releasing in theaters across the country today, with critics hailing at as one of the best films of the series. Theaters have been hard at work spinning up collectable Alien: Romulus popcorn buckets, and everything is set for resellers to take a profit.
We previously wrote about Cinemark’s Romulus popcorn bucket here, but it seems like Regal’s is also getting some attention. Rather than a Xenomorph head, Regal has gone a different direction.
The Regal Alien: Romulus popcorn bucket resembles a Facehugger containment tank, and can glow with a green light under battery power. They are $35 and available exclusively at Regal theaters.
Usually Regal will sell their collectable popcorn buckets online, but this one is not available just yet. It may appear later today, after the weekend, or not at all.
Make sure to refresh that link if you like making money, because we’ve seen a ton of sales for Alien: Romulus popcorn buckets ahead of the film’s release. With the movie hitting theaters and people getting hyped, expect to see the profits continue to roll.
Right now, Regal Alien: Romulus popcorn buckets are reselling for about $80, but we’ve seen a few sales for upwards of $100. Some resellers have also taken to selling Regal Romulus popcorn buckets in bundles with other merchandise.
This comes out to around $50 in profit for most sellers. If you’re making enough reselling to scoff at that, good for you. It just means more popcorn buckets for the rest of us.
