OpenAI's ChatGPT Comic Books Will Resell for Hundreds

When OpenAI rolled out Images 2.0 on April 21, they promoted it across social media with images designed to flex the new model’s capabilities. One of these posts featured a gallery wall of paintings, hidden among them a QR code that would link users to the easter egg page.

From there, you’ll be prompted to fill out a form asking for basic information like your name, address, and ChatGPT email address

As far as the comic book’s contents, OpenAI’s description is brief. According to their site: “This comic began as an idea from the research team behind the latest ChatGPT Image 2 launch. It celebrates the people, breakthroughs, and imagination that made this moment possible.”

The reasonable assumption is that it’s a short-form zine created using Images 2.0 itself. Even if an entire comic book of AI-generated art isn’t to your taste, it’s value as a collectible is obvious.

The ChatGPT Images 2.0 comic is five times rarer. And it comes with a stronger collector narrative.

OpenAI just had one of the biggest product launch moments in the history of consumer AI. Images 2.0 is the company’s first image model with built-in reasoning capabilities, it’s generating viral content across every major platform, and the launch announcement itself was a generated magazine spread that doubled as an interactive scavenger hunt. The comic is a physical artifact of all of that: free to claim but impossible to order.

The comic book market is also in a resurgence right now, with grading services seeing a surge in submissions across vintage and modern books. A limited-edition collectible from one of the world’s most-watched companies, graded professionally, enters a buyer pool that goes well beyond tech enthusiasts. A high-grade slab could realistically clear $700 to $1,000. Even ungraded, the Codex merch comps make a floor of $300 to $500 look achievable.

OpenAI states they’ll be giving the comic books away to “eligible” accounts, but in true OpenAI fashion the terms for eligibility are completely opaque and unstated. They warn that “shipping may not be available to all countries and locations” and “if we are unable to ship to you or you are otherwise ineligible, you will not be able to receive the gift.”

We’ll leave it up to you. There’s no doubt that these will flip for hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars when they ship. If you already have a ChatGPT account, this is well worth the minuscule amount of effort to enter.
