A collaboration between luxury sunglass brand Jacques Marie Mage (JMM) and actor Jeremy Strong, this pair of sunglasses dubbed the JMM x KLR Ripley are limited to just 100 pairs worldwide. They were initially designed for Strong’s Succession character, Kendall Roy.
Actor Jeremy Strong has collaborated with Jacques Marie Mage to produce a limited run of “Succession” themed sunglasses. The shades are based on a one-off custom pair produced by JMM exclusively for his character Kendall Roy, and finally received a public release in March 2023. Stock went mostly under the radar, and sold out fast. Now, the Kendall Roy Sunglasses from JMM are reselling for thousands.
HBO’s Succession has drawn rave reviews, with many of the actors involved receiving praise for their portrayals. Jeremy Strong plays the character Kendall Roy, second son of company head Logan Roy. Kendall Roy is one of many insecure and unstable characters on the show, and has a notably eclectic fashion taste.
Jeremy Strong has also been described as a method actor in the past. In a profile for The New Yorker, he claims “I take him (Kendall Roy) as seriously as my own life”.
To that end, he’s invested heavily in Roy’s own fashion, giving extensive input to the showrunners on how he believes Roy would carry and dress himself. In 2022, Jeremy Strong reached out to JMM to craft a custom pair of shades for his character to wear on the upcoming season of Succession. Based on a 60s style retro frame, the unique pair has the initials K.L.R. inscribed inside the frame, with JMM’s signature dark gold featured throughout.
On March 2023, this formerly one-off pair would receive a limited public production. Now dubbed the JMM x KLR Ripley, only 100 of these pairs would be sold at $750 per. The release went mostly unnoticed outside of diehard collector circles, not surprising considering how niche it was.
Unfortunately, you’ve missed your window. These sunglasses were intended to be highly rare, and only for the most dedicated Succession (or Jeremy Strong) fans. For $750 a pair, only serious ballers were welcome on this drop, and that was only if you heard about it in the first place. There was no advanced notice on the release, with the only announcement being on JMM’s Instagram the day the sale went live.
It took very little time for the limited stock of the JMM x KLR sunglasses to sell out, with most of the stock having sold in under 24 hours.
Going into April, eBay and Grailed listings for the sunglasses took off. Multiple sales were recorded in the coming days, usually exceeding $2,000. Aftermarket prices have continuously trended upwards, with the most recent eBay sale coming in at more than $3,000.
Clearly, these were a good buy for resellers. $750 a pair to resell for $3,000 is an outstanding return on investment. If you were lucky and quick enough to snag a pair, congrats on the new zeroes in your bank account.
