We’re just a few months out from the launch of id’s DOOM: The Dark Ages, and we’re finally getting some good looks at gameplay and special editions. The Collector’s Bundles for Dark Ages are looking good, and sure to interest fans of the series. We’ve covered past DOOM collector’s editions, so we wanted to give our take on this latest entry, and decide if it’s worth buying as a reseller or leaving it for fans. Let’s get started.

DOOM Dark Ages Collector's Bundle

Suit up, because we’re going to hell. Again. DOOM: The Dark Ages is the third entry in id’s rebooted modern DOOM series, and is all set for launch on May 15.

The game was first announced last summer, but it wasn’t until this week’s Xbox Developer Direct that gamers got a real look at gameplay. Alongside new and reworked features, director Hugo Martin promised that players would know what it feels like “to be an iron tank”.

And for those that like giving extra money to big companies, Bethesda revealed their plans for premium versions and pre-launch access.

DOOM: The Dark Ages Collector’s Bundles will include two days of early access to the campaign and a digital pass to DLC. The real highlight is the 12″ DOOM Slayer statuette, alongside a physical Red Key Card replica and SteelBook case.

An artbook and soundtrack is also included, but these are both digital items. DOOM: The Dark Ages Collector’s Bundles are priced at $200, fairly standard for a AAA entry, but players might find the lack of physical content disappointing relative to the price point.

Are DOOM: The Dark Ages Collector Bundles Worth Buying?

Good question. If you’re a fan of the series and looking to take home some physical collectables, this collection might already be on your radar. But resellers are interested in this product for entirely different reasons – mostly if they can flip it for a profit.

Let’s back up a bit. The last mainline DOOM game to release was 2020’s DOOM Eternal. It launched during a time of considerable turbulence within gaming, and resellers found that the collector’s editions they stocked up on failed to sell.

And while they seemed like a brick at the time, those who held onto their DOOM Eternal collector’s editions for a few months saw them skyrocket in price. By Christmas 2020, those bundles were flipping for more than $500 at a time.

DOOM Eternal Collector Edition for Sale

We covered the whole story in our DOOM Eternal retrospective. Things might have been spotty for a bit, but DOOM Eternal’s strong core gameplay and positive reviews cemented it as a fan-favorite, and it was no surprise to see the collector’s editions end up as must-haves for diehard gamers.

So, will that happen again? Let’s consider a few factors. For one, id is pitching DOOM: The Dark Ages as a distinct experience from Eternal, which largely improved on the core foundation of DOOM 2016. id seems confident in this new vision, but it’s possible their changes could alienate the fanbase.

Additionally, DOOM: The Dark Ages Collector’s Bundles are pretty light on content, especially considering their $200 base price. The statue is cool, but a digital artbook and lack of traditional goodies like maps and individual trinkets is noticeable. Just compare them to Baldur’s Gate 3’s Collector’s Editions that ended up reselling for over $1,000.

Our advice this time around is to be cautious. Bethesda has set a quantity limit for DOOM: The Dark Ages Collector’s Bundles at one per customer, and because these are a preorder item, they’re essentially risk-free. You can buy now and cancel before launch if they fail to resell.

If you can afford to tie up $200 on something for a few months that might not be profitable, this is an item worth considering. You definitely won’t lose your money, but it could be spent on quicker, more profitable flips.

We’ll let you decide. In any case, make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter if you want to be alerted to new flips before they sell out. 2025 is looking like a great year for resellers, so join the fun and get subscribed.
