These were one of the most lucrative flips of 2023
Cory in the House released for the DS in 2008 and sold a (presumably) small number of copies
This week’s viral attention triggered a slew of listings for $500+
Most copies aren’t actually selling for those prices, but some have gone for up to $300
You know, things haven’t changed much since 2016. The president is orange, there’s a pervasive sense of dread for the world’s future, and Cory in the House is a meme for some reason. Earlier this week, a concerted effort to boost the Cory in the House DS game’s Metacritic rating paid off, with the title currently holding a 9.3 user score. This new interest has resulted in a wave of eBay listings and sales, some for prices you’ll have to see to believe.
Unfortunately, Cory in the House is not a very good game. It released as shovelware for the DS in 2008, and was thoroughly panned by the handful of outlets that wasted their time writing a review.
But as we all know, critic scores are worth nothing; it’s the user scores that matter (unless users don’t like it, then critics are important.) Cory in the House has finally gotten the praise it deserves, rising to a 9.3 average rating on Metacritic’s user score.
As of this publication, that’s the second highest score for a video game across all of Metacritic, just barely behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s top rating of 9.6.
This is not an organic movement, and it’s not the result of a new generation of fans discovering an underrated gem. It’s a grassroots campaign of the least funny people on the internet rehashing an internet meme that was stale and obnoxious a decade ago. This trend is nothing new, with Cory in the House’s Metacritic score spiking several times from similar campaigns.
It does seem like this most recent effort is fueled by a desire to dethrone Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and epically troll its fans. Clair Obscur released in mid-2025 and swept the (completely meaningless) Game Awards, which infuriated viewers who complained the show was rigged (it’s not, games are awarded individually) and were upset their favorite didn’t win (sorry DK Bonanza fans.)
As usual, gamers are loud, humorless, and in most cases their opinions are less than worthless. But this week’s trend has translated into some movement on eBay which we are far more interested in.
With all the hype around the game, it looks like there’s a new class of collector eager to try out what they missed. Over the last few days, sealed copies of Cory in the House for DS have dramatically risen in price. In some cases they’ve spiked over 3,000% above the 2025-average sale of $5.
To be clear, there’s a big difference between an eBay listing and an eBay sale. The new interest has sellers testing the waters by listing their games for up to $700 at a time. Nobody is actually paying these prices, at least not yet.
But there has been a string of high-profile sales in the last 12 hours. Sealed copies have been flipping for $150 to even $300 today, and it’s possible we’re just getting started.
There’s no real way to know how many copies were produced or are currently in circulation. There’s no shortage of listings for them on eBay, especially when compared to some of the seriously rare games we’ve covered in the last few weeks.
We can’t rule out the possibility that these sales are the result of a singularly dedicated individual attempting to drive hype for the Metacritic campaign. Buy a few games, get a few articles written about you, get more eyes on your stupid joke. You’re welcome.
And we’re more than happy to take your money. Hey, when you get bored of this meme, want to buy some Shrek DVDs? How about some JonTron merch? After running this website for over five years, we know there’s an absolute surfeit of dorks with money to spend on their dork hobbies.
