Alright, time to take a break from all the vinyl we’ve been covering to take a look at something a little sillier. Right now, certain Build-a-Bear Workshops are selling a special Giant Longhorn plush. These have proved so popular that they are currently sold out through the chain’s online store. If you don’t mind making a stop next time you’re at the mall, it’s definitely worth checking to see if your local Build-a-Bear still has any, as they’re reselling three times what they they retail for.
Jumbo Longhorn at Build a Bear
Yes, Build-a-Bear Workshop is still kicking around. It’s seems like the near total death of America’s malls wasn’t enough to kill the brand, and they’re still churning out lumpy plushes at inflated prices.
And like most kids’ brands that were big in the 90s, Build-a-Bear has pivoted a bit lately to target aging millennials. They call it “kidulting“, and naturally it’s quite a big market for ailing corporations with clever marketers.
What we’re looking at today is not terribly risque, but it is pretty expensive for a plush. Build-a-Bear Workshop recently started selling jumbo versions of their popular Longhorn plush, dubbed the Giant Longhorn.
If you’ve been to the fair and seen the ludicrously oversized Chinese sweatshop teddy bears, this is basically the same thing.
The Build-a-Bear Giant Longhorn is $75. It’s also not as customizable as other offerings from the chain; no scents or sounds or any other special goodies can be implanted into it. It’s just a big-ass cow that you can drape over a chair or dump it on your bed.
And they’re also sold out. The other Longhorn plushes have been extremely popular, and the giant versions are in extreme demand. Build-a-Bear has them listed for sale online, but as of right now they’re completely sold out.
Build-a-Bear Giant Longhorn Resells
Fortunately, there are plenty of people out there willing to pitch in a hand. Sure, plushes like these are warm and cuddly, but so are resellers.
Right now, Build-a-Bear Giant Longhorn plushes are reselling for upwards of $250. For the mathematically-disinclined, that’s about triple retail. We’re not sure how shipping costs will work out, so maybe local sales are the move.
These are just a solid flip, through and through. Who knows how long the hype will last, so might as well check for stock at your next opportunity. You can also call your local stores and ask to see if they still have any.
