It’s almost time for this summer’s big blockbuster, and like most media we consume today, this one is 50 years old. Jaws will be getting a limited re-release at theaters across the country in August, and the merchandising mill is already hard at work. AMC recently showed off their designs for a Jaws 50th popcorn bucket, and the consumer response was strong enough for them to sell out in a few hours. We’re already seeing them listed on eBay.

By now, most resellers are pretty familiar with the concept of collectable popcorn buckets. The trend kicked off in 2023 with high profile releases like the D&D movie, The Little Mermaid, and especially Barbie.

Theaters design and produce their buckets in-house, and they can be pretty creative. Fans of the film will compare and hunt for their favorite designs, with the most popular popcorn buckets often selling out and becoming highly collectable.

We’ve been on the front lines of this new reselling trend, and monitor new releases for the latest must-have bucket. This time, it’s looking like AMC’s design for the upcoming Jaws 50th Anniversary premiere.

Yes, Jaws will be back in theaters soon, and that means it’s getting its own collectable popcorn bucket. As you can see, these are designed to look like the main character of the film, whose jaws swing open to house gallons of popcorn.

AMC sold their Jaws 50th Anniversary popcorn buckets for $37 through their webstore. Customers were limited to a maximum of three buckets.

They were also sold alongside a host of other Jaws merch, including collectable tumblers and popcorn chum buckets. As of this publication, only the main Jaws popcorn buckets have sold out.

A sold out popcorn bucket can only mean one thing. It didn’t take long at all for these buckets to begin reappearing for sale on eBay after disappearing from AMC’s webstore.

Right now, AMC Jaws 50th Popcorn Buckets look to be reselling for around $65. That shakes out to around $30 in profit per bucket, or about $90 or so if you bought the maximum of three.

That’s decent, nothing special, but we don’t think the story is quite over. Jaws is slated to re-release in select theaters starting on August 29, so we’ve got quite a bit of time before hitting peak hype.

It’s possible that we’ll see a lot more interest in these buckets as we get closer to the actual premiere. While AMC will likely be putting more of them up for sale in the next few weeks, we’d expect to see them sold out and in demand by late August.
