Blasphemous 2 Collector's Edition are Available for Preorder

Put on your big cone hat and make your confession, because Blasphemous 2 is getting a collector’s edition. While the game got snubbed in December, it’s been received as one of the best titles of 2023, and has gotten incredible reviews. Collector’s editions for the original game have resold for nearly $400 in the past, so this is worth paying attention to. Let’s dive in.

What is Blasphemous 2?

If you’re a gamer, you’ll know that 2023 was an absolutely bonkers year for video games. Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur’s Gate 3, Starfield, Lies of P; the year was full of hit after hit after hit.

Between all these huge releases, there were a lot of solid games that maybe didn’t get the headlines they deserved. Blasphemous 2 was released in late August, a sequel to Blasphemous from 2019.

This release put it just under a month after the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3, and only a week ahead of Starfield. Not a gamer? This is the equivalent of a movie releasing on the same weekend as Barbie and Oppenheimer.

By all accounts Blasphemous 2 is a phenomenal game. It’s sitting at an 84 on Metacritic, 94% positive reviews on Steam, and is regarded as a total improvement over the previous game.

Yet it didn’t receive a single nomination during the 2023 Game Awards. Fans were understandably disappointed, especially considering it failed to get a nom for Best Indie, despite one of the games in that category being developed by a billion dollar company.

But that’s beside the point. Blasphemous 2 is a great game with a dedicated playerbase. Don’t let the snub put you off.

To celebrate the game’s success, the team announced it would be getting a collector’s edition in 2024.

What's in the Blasphemous 2 Collector's Edition?

While collector’s editions are pretty much a given for Triple A releases, they’re not so common for indie games.

Team 17 did produce a collector’s edition for the original Blasphemous, but that came out in 2021, two years after the game’s release. This time gamers only had to wait a few months to scoop up the premo version.

Blasphemous 2 Collector’s Editions cost $99. They include the game for either PS5 or the Switch, a SteelBook case, special Collector’s Edition box, three art cards, a 60-page artbook, metal coin, official guide and manual, “collector’s CD cover”, a thank you letter from the team, and a certificate of authenticity.

That’s a lot of stuff, but nothing bombastic. Still, it’s a much lower price than other video game collector’s editions that can often run past $300.

Blasphemous 2 Collector's Statue

Figurines and statues are very popular choices for video game collector’s editions. Many of the games we covered in 2023 included them, but the Blasphemous 2 Collector’s Edition does not have a statue.

Back in November, the Game Kitchen announced that they would start selling Blasphemous 2 statues based on a character from the game. These were available as both a handpainted or unpainted model, so fans could customize the character to their liking.

Painted Blasphemous 2 statues are listed on their website for €666 right now, and have a long wait time. Considering the detail of the statue it makes sense why these were not included with the collector’s edition.

Is the Blasphemous 2 Collector's Edition worth buying?

At the time of publication, Blasphemous 2 Collector’s Editions are available for preorder exclusively through Amazon for both the PS5 and Nintendo Switch. It’s unclear if more retailers will list it.

So should you buy it? Well, if you’re a fan and want a copy to put in on your shelf, sure. But considering this site’s name, you’re probably wondering if this is a good investment.

First, let’s take a look at collector’s editions for the original Blasphemous. As we said, these came out in 2021, two years after the game’s release. They were also $99, and included pretty similar stuff to the collector’s editions for the sequel.

They were also very limited. We don’t know the exact numbers, but Blasphemous was a fairly niche title, and we’re guessing they didn’t make a ton of them. Once they sold out, Blasphemous Collector’s Editions skyrocketed in value. Recently, they’ve been reselling for nearly $400.

Can you see why this new release has caught our eye? Granted, this took some time to happen, but a 4X increase in value is very, very good.

Blasphemous 2 Collector’s are available for preorder right now. We don’t what the available stock is or when preorders will close. Copies are expected to start shipping in late April, at least according to the Amazon listing.

Because it’s a preorder, risk is pretty minimal. If the game doesn’t sell out, you can cancel before it ships with no hassle. If they do sell out? That’s pretty much a win.

The main concern is if these take a long time to appreciate in value. Collector’s editions for the original Blasphemous started going up in value almost immediately after they sold out, but this is a different situation. The company may have made more of them, or the preorders may even be unlimited.
