Where did the time go?
Disney’s heavily anticipated Lorcana trading card game has its first wide release this Friday
It will be available through local game stores (LGS) and at some Disney Parks
Booster boxes retail for $143 and are currently reselling for $250 or more
If you’re a TCG fan, a Disney fan, or a person that has spent time on the internet lately, you’re probably well aware by now that Disney is making an entry into the trading card world with Lorcana. The game was first announced 1 year ago, and although there have been a number of promotional releases leading up to now, Friday will be the game’s official release date, seeing the release of The First Chapter.
The release on August 18th will be exclusively through local game stores (LGS). While Lorcana has not yet released a store locator for LGS locations that will be carrying the game, it is safe to assume that many of the stores listed on this WOTC locator will be carrying Lorcana. When in doubt, call ahead.
It is believed that some Disney parks, namely Disneyland California, will be selling the set on August 18th as well.
The MSRP for Lorcana is $5.99 per booster pack. This means that a full Lorcana booster box of 24 packs costs $143.76. If your LGS is trying to charge much more than this, it’s probably best to find new one or wait for the big box retailer release happening on September 1st. It is also worth keeping in mind that stores have been instructed to limit customers to a maximum amount of 1 booster box per person.
Stores will also be carrying a variety of other Lorcana products, including the Illumineer’s Trove box, which retails for $49.99 and contains 8 booster packs and a number of game-related items such as game tokens and a player’s guide.
Lorcana is the hottest card game to come out in years — potentially decades. And with the massive cross-section of TCG game and Disney fandom, it’s no wonder that demand is going to outweigh supply for at least a while.
As of this writing (2 days pre-release), confirmed orders for the Lorcana booster box are reselling for around $250 on eBay.
In addition, the Illumineer’s Trove is reselling for as much as $150.
While prices will likely drop after Friday, and then after the subsequent big box store release on September 1st, it’s doubtful that reselling Lorcana products won’t be profitable anytime soon. Good luck hunting, everyone!
