Ween canceled their shows for this week
Tour-exclusive merch was sold at the shows they did perform
This merch, including super-rare signed vinyl, is reselling
Earlier this week, the rock band Ween announced they would be canceling their upcoming concerts in August. For fans of the band and resellers, this really stinks. Music aside, there was also tour-exclusive white vinyl versions of “Chocolate & Cheese” for sale at the merch stands. Now that the shows are kaput, it seems like this vinyl won’t be reaching fans. A few resellers that attended earlier shows have put their records up for sale, and the prices we’re seeing are absolutely incredible.
Sad days for Ween fans. If you missed it, the band unexpectedly canceled their next five shows in Seattle, Portland, and Eugene. Some fans had less than 24 hours notice before the rug was pulled, throwing plans into disarray and leaving some holding major bags for airfare and hotels.
There’s no other way to slice it; this sucks. At this time, the reasons behind the cancellations have yet to be confirmed. Back in April, Dean Ween announced he’d need to take a month off for his mental health and to recharge, effectively canceling that leg of the tour.
And it’s no secret that substance abuse has been an issue for the band in the past. Still, there’s really no point in speculating. Attendees to shows in Montana and Spokane reported the band was in great shape, with 30+ song setlists played perfectly in 100° heat.
We published an article about the tour on Saturday. Music aside, these shows were also a great opportunity for resellers. Tour-exclusive white vinyl versions of “Chocolate & Cheese” were on sale at merch stands, some of which were signed by Gene and Dean Ween.
Autographed Ween merch is genuinely rare, so this was a great opportunity for resellers to make some money after the show.
Well, it turns out that these vinyl records are even rarer than we were anticipating. With Ween pulling the plug on four concerts this week, only a small portion of this vinyl made it out into the wild. The result? Absolutely wild prices on eBay.
Following the concerts in Spokane and Bonner, tour-exclusive white Ween vinyl is reselling for over $400 at a time. And while the signed stuff is doing great, even unsigned vinyl has flipped for up to $600!
This is known in the business as “pretty damn good”. While we’ve seen vinyl flip for triple digit prices in the past, it’s almost exclusively signed stuff from big name artists. You can see pretty clearly how devoted Ween fans are after this week.
While it sucks that these dates got canceled, at least some fans managed to get something out of a cruddy situation. We’ll be keeping our eyes on Ween’s socials in the next few weeks, as it’s possible the remaining stock of signed “Chocolate & Cheese” vinyl will be sold online.
If that happens, we’ll let you know. Subscribe to our newsletter if you want to be updated directly. In the meantime, check out some other reselling opportunities going on right now like Mezco Casey Jones figures and Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween lanterns.
