Coin Collectors Pay Big Money for 2026 Semiquincentennial Coins

The US Mint’s Semiquincentennial program is the most significant circulating coin redesign since the 50 State Quarters program in the late 1990s. Here is what is in circulation:

The Emerging Liberty Dime got its first redesign in 80 years. Gone is FDR; in his place is Lady Liberty, her hair caught in revolutionary winds, with an eagle gripping arrows on the reverse above the inscription “LIBERTY OVER TYRANNY.” It carries the dual date 1776~2026.

Five new quarters are rolling out across 2026, each commemorating a founding document or moment: the Mayflower Compact, the Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. The Mayflower Compact quarter was the first out in January. The remaining four follow throughout the year.

The Enduring Liberty Half Dollar features a close-up of the Statue of Liberty on the obverse, with Liberty passing her torch to a new generation on the reverse, above the inscription “KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONLY GUARDIAN OF TRUE LIBERTY.” Like the others, it carries the dual date 1776~2026 and marks the first half dollar redesign since the 1976 Bicentennial.

The 1776~2026 nickel keeps the Jefferson and Monticello design but adds the dual date, a subtle change that coin collectors specifically chase because the denomination almost never gets touched.

Head to your local bank and ask the teller for uncirculated 2026 coins in rolls. They may or may not be willing or able to accommodate you, but this is a common request that many banks can handle.

A standard nickel box contains 50 rolls of 40 nickels each, totaling 2,000 nickels at $100 face value. Dime rolls run 50 coins per roll. Quarter rolls are 40 coins each. Half dollar rolls contain 20 coins. Ask specifically for 2026-dated coins. Some tellers will not know what you are talking about; ask for a manager or the vault supervisor.

Condition is everything. Collectors want coins that have never seen a register drawer or a change cup. Do not remove coins from the roll. Sell them in rolls for maximum profit.

The secondary market is already active. A full box of 2026 nickels sold on eBay recently for $900 against a face value of $100. That is 9x face, and it reflects genuine collector demand for the dual-date coins in bulk, unopened condition.

Here is what makes this opportunity time-sensitive in a way most flips are not. Every quarter design that enters circulation resets a mini-sourcing window. The Mayflower Compact quarter is out now. Four more follow. Each time a new design drops, collector interest spikes again and early, clean examples command the highest premiums.

This is not a one-week window. It is closer to a six-month runway that runs hot in waves through July 4th. As time goes on, it will get harder and harder to obtain uncirculated coins from your bank. Act sooner, rather than later.

Additionally, this is a zero-risk flip. Because you’re dealing in currency, you can simply trade the coins back to the bank and get exactly what you paid for them. Other than gas money, you have absolutely nothing to lose and plenty to gain if all goes well.
