With Dune 2 hitting theaters across the world last weekend, merchandise manufacturers are in full swing right now. When a movie like this comes out you’ve only got one chance, so you’d better make the most of it. In addition to usual products like toys, board games and clothes, Topps announced they were selling a highly limited collection of Dune trading cards. These didn’t last long, and now resellers are flipping them for five times what they retailed for.

2024 Topps Dune Base Set

Yes, Arrakis is on everyone’s minds this week. Whether you’ve been to theater or not, chances are you’re at least aware that Dune 2 is a big deal.

A few weeks ago we covered the stir over designs for the AMC-exclusive Dune 2 popcorn buckets, and now it seems like resellers will be getting a new opportunity to profit from the movie.

Topps surprise dropped a new collection of trading cards on the day of Dune 2’s premiere. We don’t know where the idea came from (well, they probably wanted to make money), but the promotion seems to be a success. All of these sets were sold in just a few minutes.

The Topps Dune Base Set cost $50, and was limited to just 500 total sets. There are ten different cards based on characters from the movie, including Paul and his mommy, Baron Harkonnen, and Stilgar (sadly no Duncan Idaho).

Each set includes three base cards numbered through 150, and one parallel. These include:

  • Orange Foil /20
  • Blue Foil /15
  • Red Foil /10
  • Purple Foil /5
  • Gold Foil /1

The sets are expected to start shipping before summer. The limited nature of the set means that most fans didn’t have a chance to buy the set, and preorders have started to resell.

Dune Topps Trading Cards Resell

If you were quick enough to snag one of these boxes before they sold out, then congratulations. Topps Dune Base Sets are now reselling for about $250, with some sales trending even higher.

Dune Topps Card For Sale

And these are just the early sales. These sets aren’t expected to reach customers for several weeks, and it’s possible that a truly wild market might open up for individual cards. Who will pull the Gold Paul? Will collectors buy up unopened sets to chase parallels?

All we can say is the current market looks great. Having an established brand like Topps work on these trading cards is great for their long term value, and we’re guessing interest will hold up when they eventually start shipping.
