This is the difference between the sale price and resell price. It does not take into account any costs associated with reselling. Things like shipping, storage fees, if applicable.
This extremely rare 2xLP video game soundtrack was released in 2020 as a collaboration between iam8bit and Annapurna Interactive.
Travelers across the galaxy, rejoice! The Outer Wilds vinyl, Signals From The Outer Wilds is restocking soon. With the last drop going under the radar of many resellers and collectors back in 2020, Monday’s restock is a second chance. If you intend to buy a record to resell, beware: this will not be the last restock.
Have you read our article on Signals From The Outer Wilds already? If not, that’s a good place to start.
TL;DR, the soundtrack for 2019’s Outer Wilds got a vinyl pressing. Fans loved it, resellers missed it, so the very few copies that sold secondhand went for extreme prices. Most listings were around $600 (it retailed for $75). Since then, people have been perpetually harping on Mobius Digital and iam8bit for a repress.
Their dreams just came true.
If you read our longer article, you’d know that since the release of the original Outer Wilds vinyl, the soundtrack for its DLC was compiled into an album. You’d also know that that album has yet to receive a physical release, and we were speculating that the next Outer Wilds vinyl would include those songs.
Well, that’s not happening yet. The repressing of Signals From The Outer Wilds is identical to the previous release. No DLC songs, no new songs in general.
In a tweet on March 16, vinyl manufacturer iam8bit finally confirmed that Signals From The Outer Wilds would be getting a repress.
On Monday, March 20, 2023, the Outer Wilds vinyl will restock. The sale will go live on iam8bit’s site at 9 a.m. Pacific. Details are vague, but iam8bit is saying stock will be limited, as well as fast shipping. Chances are they’ve decided to press a small amount of the records previously, and are now putting them up for sale.
Additionally, this will be a global sale. The Outer Wilds vinyl will ship to anywhere in the world. Considering this, the drop will likely sell out pretty fast.
iam8bit hasn’t put out a price yet. The previous release was at $40, and if we had to guess, the repressing will be too.
Sales for the Outer Wilds vinyl will be limited. iam8bit has a two per customer limit for this drop.
As a fan of the game, yes absolutely. It’s an extremely cool record. But, considering this site is called “Resell Calendar” and not “Outer Wilds Fans Calendar”, you’re wondering if the Outer Wilds vinyl will resell.
In our opinion, this restock is worth buying. Chances are, considering the incredible popularity of the item, the rapid sellout of the previous drop, and the fact that its a global sale, Monday’s sale of the Outer Wilds vinyl will also sell out extremely fast.
But will it resell? If iam8bit had not confirmed future restocks, the answer would be “Yes, definitely.” Even then, it still likely that you can resell this vinyl record for profit.
Really, it comes down to how iam8bit announces their restock plans. For example: Monday’s drop goes through and the records sell out. Many fans are happy but most missed out. There will likely be an aftermarket as these trade hands from resellers to fans struck by FOMO. The longer iam8bit takes to communicate on a restock, the better (at least for resellers).
If iam8bit goes radio silent or is vague about future restocks, that’s great. Resellers will likely be able to make good profit off these. What you need to be worried about is if immediately after the drop, iam8bit puts out a tweet confirming the dates of each additional restock. If that happens, it will likely kill most of the resale value for these.
So, that said, we recommend buying one of these on Monday, but be aware of the risk. Any time you buy an item that will restock, you are taking a gamble. If you’re in RC Elite, we’ll be pulling the stock the morning of the sale, so you know just how many records were produced.
