Exclusive Tesla merch is sold at the Tesla Diner
These include a variant on the Optimus figure and Tesla model cars
Some of the silverware and menus have reappeared for sale on eBay
If you’re in Los Angeles and looking to make a little money, we’ve got an opportunity for you. Elon Musk has just opened the first Tesla Diner in Hollywood, and it’s selling unique merch that you can’t buy anywhere else. Tesla fans have proven time and time again that they’re willing to pay a premium for collectibles from their favorite company, and this week’s opening is another opportunity to dip into those profits. Here’s what’s on the menu.
Let Elon do the cooking tonight. Pull your EV into an open Supercharger spot, crank the electro-swing, and head into the world’s first Tesla Diner. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served 24 hours a day, seven days a week (but no alcohol).
The menu has been published online, with Tesla offering “retro-futuristic” options like Avocado Toast and “Epic Bacon”. Apparently “retro-futuristic” means “2011 internet memes”.
For the most part, the food looks decidedly mid and overpriced, so exactly what you’d expect when dining in LA. The Tesla Diner also doesn’t accept tips or cash; instead choosing to maintain a separate 20% tipping pool that is split among staff.
But we aren’t here to talk about the food. What makes this restaurant interesting to resellers is the merch. The Tesla Diner hosts its own gift shop, selling Diner-exclusive products like a black Optimus action figure and Tesla Diner T-shirts.
Resellers have had a lot of success flipping Tesla merch in the past. From $1,500 Tesla Surfboards to rare CyberHammers, we’ve seen some items resell for thousands of dollars over MSRP.
So the opportunity to pick up something new and exclusive is worth jumping on. Resellers have already flipped standard Tesla Optimus figures for nearly five times their retail price, and these new black figures look like another chance to secure profits.
The Tesla Diner opened on July 21 at 4:20 PM (good one), and we began seeing exclusive merchandise relisted for sale on eBay within a few hours. The most popular products are the black Optimus figures and levitating Cybertrucks.
We’ve even seen a few sellers flipping Tesla Diner silverware and menus. Please note that these not actually for sale, and probably involved some sticky fingers.
Obviously, stealing silverware from a restaurant is extremely lowbrow behavior that we don’t condone, even if it’s a bamboo fork from the Dork Diner. We’re just noting that there’s a market for it.
As of now, the Hollywood location is the only operational Tesla Diner. Musk has implied plans to open more Diners soon, and has also stated that Tesla Diner merch will be sold on a revolving basis with new, exclusive items added regularly.
If you’re in the area, this might be worth checking out. Official prices for Tesla Diner merch have not been published online, but we’ve heard that Optimus figures cost around $50 while T-shirts sell for up to $40. Make sure you check eBay listings for merch before you buy.
